Since enrolling in graduate school in 2009, I had spent an astonishing amount of time in the pursuit of work in my specific field. I continued to hear more stories from friends, family, and acquaintances that experienced the shame, anger, and lowered self-worth that comes with continued rejection and an inability to provide for oneself. The decision to write the book “The Job Inner-View” came to me as sort of an epiphany one morning in late 2012, as I wanted to write about all the different successful and creative methods I used to find work in hopes that it could help encourage and inspire millions of other unemployed Americans. Throughout the course of writing my book, I was able to interview various well known and highly experienced employers; gaining both insight and feedback on how one should go about finding work in today’s economy, as well as recurring similarities in success stories from employees I interviewed who found work. A major concern that seems to go unaddressed with job searching today has to do with the exceptionally fast degree to which technology has advanced, which I believe BOTH employers/employees alike are struggling to catch up with for various reasons. Many companies now use computers to sort through specific keywords to sift through the thousands of resumes they receive a week. Typical job seekers spend hours filling out application after application and will hardly hear back from a human being in order to establish a quality connection, which research shows is essentially why people are hired for jobs. My mission has been to create an innovative way for both employees/employers to connect more quickly and proficiently. One of several methods I currently use to carry this out is my blog site and Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/TheJobInnerview where I share success stories of newly hired individuals, as well as postings from both jobs offered/needed from mutual contacts and friends of mine to help bring people together through social networking. I also began contacting Universities and spoke to graduate students in helping prepare them with tools for finding work upon graduating. ~ Scott Engler Author of “The Job Inner-View” “When we give from a place of love, rather than a place of expectation, more usually comes back to us than we could have ever imagined.” ~ Susan Jeffers

Legends of the Recruiting and Career World - Scott Engler

    Introduction

The publication you are about to embark upon entails exclusive interviews with some of the most brilliant minds in the industries of both recruiting and career development. Within the pages of this publication include contributions from people who for decades have made an impact in their field that has been nothing short of extraordinary. It contains a priceless wealth of wisdom, insight, and advice shared by truly exceptional individuals: one an internationally all-time best- selling author on career development, another who is credited with the creation of Performance Based Hiring, and others who have reached millions of people around the world through their own publications, products, services, and expertise.

The creation of Legends of the Recruiting and Career World was inspired by my own sincere desire to impact these specific industries. Being personally involved in these industries and publishing a book on contemporary job search strategies back in 2013, I experienced something in the following years that was frustrating, confounding, and yet made sense to me all at the same time. My feelings of frustration stemmed from an observation that although it was very apparent how millions of people were struggling to adapt to the rapid changes and challenges in recruiting and job searching - most of these people willing to admit their struggle - a large majority of this same population were highly resistant to picking up and reading a book that was specifically designed to help them in these areas of struggle.

Although there are certainly exceptions to this observation and a portion of people willing to read books on the subject, it was my own observations and collaborations with other authors on these same topics (many of whom had far more experience and success in the field than myself) emphatically agreeing with me that further validated my experience. Moreover, in an honest self-assessment much later down the road, I had to admit to myself that I too seemed to be just as reluctant to pick up and read books on these subjects, even after writing a book on the topic myself!

Instead of continuing to spend countless hours speculating why this seemed to be the case for most people, I chose to accept my experience at the time and began asking myself different questions instead. One question I asked myself was, If most of us seem to greatly resist reading a book that will undoubtedly help us in our area of struggle, what would be another method that could serve as a sufficient substitute, perhaps even if just presented to us in some different way?

After asking myself questions such as these, I soon found that what began to unfold had been laying right in front of me for quite some time.

During the writing of my first publication The Job Inner-View and creating content for my website, I had interviewed many people – job seekers, hiring managers, human resource professionals, management consultants, and recruiters. These interviews were aimed at gathering information from people who had exhibited a level of success or expertise in the areas many people were struggling, and I shared portions of these interviews in both my book and website for readers as a source of inspiration. I quickly recalled how these types of interviews were not only easy to read and less of a struggle to seek out and review, but they were overflowing with practical strategies, insights, and advice to leave the person reading it with a powerful level of encouragement and motivation to be successful in overcoming their own quandary.

Shortly after, I reached out to other people I respected professionally regarding the idea of creating a publication or handbook exclusively containing interviews as a ‘sufficient substitute,’ and was provided with just the amount of positive feedback I needed to begin moving forward with publication.

It felt like no coincidence to me - after carefully considering the people I felt would make the greatest impact to help other people in this area - the type of positive responses I got from these people willing to support.  The incredibly rapid rate to which these people enthusiastically responded to contribute was nothing short of miraculous. Almost a year later, I still experience a level of shock thinking about how quickly things came together, and am in awe and truly honored to have some of the most legendary people in the world within these industries involved.

In a short second section of this publication, I included three interviews with successful job seekers who landed the positions they had wanted; all having accomplished this quest within the past three years. Representing different industries and age groups, their personal stories of success and overcoming of major obstacles were so touching and inspiring to me that I requested that they allow me to share their stories with others that could benefit.

May the colossal amount of love, insight, expertise, and power emanating throughout these interviews provide each person who reads it with an equal amount of clarity, encouragement, and prosperity in their own journey.
