About this ebook

Kevin Shoemaker’s first book Walk This Way, Walk His Way is based on the topic of Christian effectiveness through the Greatest Commandment. This companion study guide is meant to broaden and deepen the application of this concept; to cause a shift from material that has simply been read to material that is lived out in life. In this study, Kevin leads the reader of Walk This Way, Walk His Way to better understand the content, the context, and the process of walking with Christ. He delves into the daily decision to fix our heart, soul, mind, and strength on Him, to let Him be our guide, and live it out in each of our lives.

Minute-by-minute we experience life. Yet, are we minute-by-minute making the right choices, or living righteously? If our focus is on Loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves, we increase the likelihood that it is and that is Kevin’s desire for himself and for you in your walk with God!

Kevin Shoemaker

Kevin Shoemaker grew up in the Midwest playing baseball, golf and tennis. His affinity for math and science led him to attend Iowa State University where he earned a B.S. in chemical engineering. While at ISU, Kevin met his wife, Barb, on a blind date. Today, Kevin, his wife and their dog reside in Omaha, NE. They are blessed to have four grown children and five grandchildren. Kevin’s identity as a child of God and co-heir with Christ permeate all aspects of his life. His love of books, management, leadership and effectiveness have led him to found Maker Ministries, an organization whose goal is to develop effective disciples of Jesus Christ.

    BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Every day, we make choices. Every choice has a start. If we trace our decisions back to the root, we will find they are based upon our beliefs. Whether your choice is to ride a bike or walk, eat ice cream or a salad, read a book or watch television—our decisions tell others (and God) about who we are and what we believe.

The purpose of this book is to provide a springboard for in-depth personal reflection into effective Christian living and applying such principles to our daily lives.

This companion study guide is to be used in conjunction with the primary book Walk This Way, Walk His Way: Effectiveness through the Greatest Commandment by Kevin Shoemaker. We encourage you to read the primary book prior to or alongside this guide; the concepts will be clearer once you have grasped the writings in the original title.

This study may be used for personal use or in a small group setting.

    Personal Study

As a guide for personal quiet time, you will have the opportunity to work at your own pace and reflect heartily upon these questions. Your prayer time has the potential to be vast and deep; no one is waiting for you to finish on time! God enjoys when we slow down and take a moment to be present with Him. Using this as a personal study will leave you with little to no human accountability; it is up to you to push your- self toward the finish line. Polish your walk with Christ until it gleams with the reflection of our Savior!

    Small Group Study

Unlike personal study, one of the best parts of using this guide with a group comes in the opportunities to listen and share.

We suggest the facilitator begin with prayer and the reading of relevant Scripture passages. During the course of the time spent with one another, the facilitator should at- tempt to listen well, giving examples from his or her own life to begin conversation and create an atmosphere of trust. The more you, the facilitator, open up to your group, the more trust others will have toward you in the sharing of their praises, struggles, questions, and wisdom.

As the group works its way through the study, the facilitator should inspire the other participants to finish their work in its entirety.
