CHAPTER ONE
The Big Apple City
New York has always been one of the few places I’ve been dying to visit. I have heard a lot about the exciting places to visit, and I couldn't wait to see them all, the Statue of Liberty, the Rockefeller Centre, Central Park, and the Empire State building would be a ginormous sight to behold.
Finally, I would be getting my wish granted because after Christmas, I will be going on a trip to NYC with my brothers and we’ll be spending a couple of days over there.
My name is Nujaz, and I live in Boston with my Mom and two brothers, Reese and Quay. Reese is older than I am and he’s the most annoying brother one could ever wish for. He torments and makes fun of me every single time, and when he’s not doing that, he’s bossing me around just for the fun of it. No one defines bully better. Quay, my younger brother is of the opposite character, relaxed and easy going and we get along very well, but I love them both regardless. Christmas in Boston was quite fun.
The trees were beautifully decorated with glittering light accessories, the jingle bells, music, and parties made it all a worthwhile celebration. However, none of these could compare to the sensational feeling burning inside me. The Big Apple is full of glamor, dazzle, and style and I cannot wait to explore every bit of it. 30th of December 2015. The day finally arrived. I was the first to wake up, and I had already packed before sunrise. I heard Quay scream Let’s go there!
from his room, I thought he was ready to roll, so I rushed to check on him only to find out he’s just entering the bathroom.
Deeply disappointed, I went to Reese’s, but his door was locked, only God knows what he’s up to now. I went downstairs to meet mom, she had already fixed up breakfast, hmmm. Pasta salad with chicken, I’m really going to miss this, I said to her and she replied
But you will only be gone for a few days
.
I smiled and ate away. At last! The boys came out, and they joined mom and I at the dinner table. Reese hit my head as he walked past me, I kicked him back and we got into an argument. He started calling me all sort of names, reminding me that I’m just a broke guy with no job. Quay just sat there watching the two of us having a go at each other. Mom couldn’t bear it anymore and silenced the both of us. We resumed our meal after the awkward scenario. After we were done eating, we said our goodbyes to mom and headed outside. Reese went to the car park and drove out the rental car we had rented from one of the car rental agencies in town. It was a black Nissan Versa, quite a compact one for the trip.
Having assessed the car properly and made sure everything was in place, we bid mom farewell and embarked on our journey to the Big Apple.
Reese was a very fast driver, the way he sped past other cars on the road was quite uncomfortable and scary but thrilling at the same time. I slept off at some point only to wake up and discover that we’ve arrived at New York City. What a crowd! It felt like the whole of America had traveled here for the holidays. We drove around the city for a while, sightseeing the colorful billboard adverts, fabulous malls, excellent photo ops everywhere and a bunch of tasty street food to set the mood going. We found a hotel to settle around the city in Sunnyside. The price was fair enough for me, though Reese argued it was awfully steep. We paid, got our keys and a porter assisted us in hauling our luggage. We followed after him as he got our room number from Reese. He led us into a long hallway full of clusters of doors opposing each other. The hotel was exquisitely furnished to taste, chandeliers littered along the plaster of paris coated ceiling, beautiful works of art and sculptures hung on the walls as we strode in between. The hallway was rather too wide than normal, it was almost the size of a single room. The floors were coated with flashy marbles that reflected light. We got to our room on the second floor and helped ourselves in without the porter who was dismissed by Reese after he showed us the door. I realized it was a mini suite and inquired of Reese why we should lodge in it instead of the deluxe as planned. He said he had his reasons and that I should just focus arranging our stuffs first.
Quay was silent, admiring the interior of the suite, he cared less if it was a single or double. He brought out his clothes from his luggage and began arranging them neatly in the closet.
Guys, look what I found
