About this ebook

If done with a high level of precision, gambling can be a source of extra income; you simply need to be good at statistics. Once you strike the right balance, there is no doubt that casino gambling can be your gold mine. However, many players make the mistake of participating in a form of gambling without the knowledge of how it works. The end results can be disastrous so if you want to know more about online blackjack, let us explore this exciting game in more detail.
Blackjack is a lucrative form of gambling which unlike some games where you play against other players; here you play against the house or dealer. For some amateur gamblers, online blackjack is viewed as a game of sheer luck yet if you take the time to understand the rules of the game, the value of the cards and how you can statistically work out which cards will be dealt, your chances of mastering the game of blackjack can be very high.

Blackjack in Action
To get a basic understanding of blackjack, let us look at a simple example. When playing the game of blackjack, once you have placed your bet, the dealer will deal you two cards while the dealer also receives two cards of which only one is turned up. At this stage, you can then decide if you would like an additional card (Hit) or you can choose to remain with your existing cards (Stand). Other options include Split, Double Down or Insurance but for now we will focus on the basics.
So in this example, the dealer deals you a 4 and a 5 which gives you a total of 9 (4+5). The dealer’s face up card is a 6. In this case, we decide to Hit and we are given a King. Our total is now 19 (4+5+10) and we decide to Stand. The dealer is now required to draw cards and they must draw more cards to any total of 16 or less and must stand on any total of 17 or more. In this example, the dealer turns over their second card and reveals a Queen. The dealer’s total is now 16 (6+10) and in this case, the dealer must draw again. The third card is a Jack and so the dealer has Bust – that is, their card total has exceeded 21 (6+10+10=26). You will win the hand and will be paid out 1:1. That is, if you bet $100, you will receive your $100 bet back plus an additional $100.

    Introduction to Blackjack

    A Brief History

It is generally believed that playing cards was invented in China in about 900 AD. Chinese people began to shuffle paper money into various combinations and in China today the term for playing cards means paper tickets.

    ––––––––

The 52 card deck as we know it was originally called the French Pack. The origin of Blackjack is somewhat unclear. Some people believe that Blackjack originated in French casinos in the early

1700s where it was known as vingt-et-un (20 and 1).

The game became known as Blackjack because if a player held a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades as the 1st two cards, the player was paid out extra. So with a Jack being a vital card and Spades being black, the game was called Blackjack.

    ––––––––

This game has been played in the United States since the 1800's. Gambling was legal out West from the 1850's to 1910, at which time Nevada made it a felony to operate a gambling game. In

1931, Nevada re-legalized casino gambling where BlackJack became one of the primary games of chance offered to gamblers. In 1978,

New Jersey became the second state to legalize gambling and since then casinos have sprouted up in about 20 other states.

    ––––––––

Blackjack remains one of the most popular card games in the world. Let’s see why.
