About this ebook

Earth is in turmoil. The Nian General Zalier has married the human Lucy Thompson taking the first step toward the Nian goal of finding partners for all Nians on Earth. Too bad a large portion of Earth's population thinks the union is an abomination.

Rocts is finally in a position of authority. All of his hard work has culminated in being given the newest Nian resort to run, The Desire. His first day on the job and the new accountant has stolen his focus completely.

Georgia has a five year, ten year, and pretty much an entire life plan. Love is not part of it, though. She’s dedicated to her career and now all that hard work is about to pay off. She’s landed a coveted account with the Nian resort Desire and a promotion is surely in her future. Unfortunately, life is rarely that easy.

As the Nian and Earth relationship crumbles around them, Rocts pursues Georgia with all the determination and charm he has in his arsenal. Unforeseen consequences of the Olovian virus rear their head and increasingly violent reactions from Earth's people throw even more obstacles in his way, but Georgia is having a harder and harder time resisting his magnetic pull.

    Chapter One

You should totally be a baker. You’re an amazing baker, I love your cookies and cakes and cupcakes. Everything you bake is fab.

Rolling her eyes, Georgia said, There is no way in hell I’m opening up a bakery. I’m already overweight if I had a bakery you’d have to roll me everywhere. I’m not even going to mention the fact that the profit margins on those things are ridiculous.

Flopping down on Georgia’s couch Ty frowned at her while she continued cleaning. If you love doing it money doesn’t matter.

Said someone who has never had to live paycheck to paycheck on the ramen diet.

I can't help it if my parents are rich and like to take care of me. I'm their baby girl.

Ty stuck out her bottom lip and pasted a cute, innocent look on her face. Georgia stuck her tongue out at her friend but couldn't hold a grudge against her. Ty may have grown up wealthy and never had to worry about paying the bills, but she was also one of the kindest people Georgia had ever met.

Back to the original topic, will you be able to water my plants while I'm gone?

Of course, though, are you sure it's a good idea to go to Desire? Have you seen the news? The world is blowing up over General Zalier dating a human. It's all over the papers and social media. You can't spit without hitting someone that has an opinion on the subject.

    Gross.

    It's an expression.

    Still gross.

Whatever. Are you sure it will be safe? I know you don't have a problem with Nians dating humans and I don't have a problem with it, but some of the stuff being said is scary.

Shaking her head Georgia shot her friend a confident smile and said, General Zalier is at the Destiny, I'll be at Desire, there shouldn't be any problems.

Shouldn't be is what has me worried.

Her friend frowned at her, but Georgia didn't see any way around it. Her accounting firm had been approached to do an audit of the Desire's book. If things went well they could even be asked to take over from the original firm. If she managed to land this account it would be a major career boost. They might even make her partner.

At the prospect of such a huge promotion Georgia knew that she should feel excited, but Ty was right. Her heart just wasn't in it anymore. Accounting had never been a passion, it had been chosen for job security and the healthy starting salary. Watching her parents barely able to scrape together enough money each month to cover basic bills, while they both tried to attend college, had implanted in her a desire never to have to do the same. It was a desire that had served her well.

Graduating two years after her peers, but debt free had made everything worth it. She'd been offered a job at the firm she'd interned at. They worked with her as she finally obtained her CPA license and now they were sending her out on a possible life-altering assignment.

She knew part of the reason they were sending a junior member of the staff was a few bigoted partners, but she was fairly certain if she landed the multi-million dollar account they wouldn't care where the money was coming from. All she had to do was dazzle the Nians with her skills and she was in. It helped that she'd already discovered a discrepancy. After just a quick cursory glance at what they'd sent over she knew that they had a contractor stealing from them.

She may not love her job, but she was damn good at it.

    Chapter Two

    You're fired.

What? You can't fire me! I quit!

Even better! Expect to hear from our lawyers about the materials you've been stealing.

    What?

The door slammed in the startled face of the contractor that had come to see him. A satisfied smirk covered Rocts face as he walked back to his temporary desk. A quick call had security dealing with the irate man pounding on his door. Another call had a list of new possible contractors emailed to him.

He could really get used to being the one in charge.

Pouring over paperwork Rocts spent the next two hours catching himself up on the Desire's situation. Construction was falling behind and now they were receiving daily death threats from people around the globe. Humans were a fickle bunch. One minute they were awarding you a Peace prize the next they were trying to kill you.

Rocts job was to make sure the resort got back on track and keep everyone safe in the process. He was confident he'd have no problem getting the job done.

A sharp knock at his door brought his mind back down to Earth and out of the daydreams he'd been having involving crowds of people cheering his name telling him he was the greatest leader of all time.

What? He barked at the closed door. He had no time for interruptions, didn't people understand he was busy.

The door opened and a small woman poked her head in before slowly entering. Her dark hair was pulled back into a tight bun and she was wearing a rather severe looking black pantsuit.  Her curves couldn't be hidden, though, add to that the black frames perched on her cute nose and Rocts felt his interest piqued.

I'm sorry, I hate to interrupt, but I'm looking for Mr. Kensington. My name is Georgia Winter, I’m with the Brooks, Carson, and Hudson accounting firm. I have an appointment with Mr. Kensington but no one seems to know where he is.

Her soft southern accent when she said her name caused Rocts interest to grow. Jumping up from his desk he flashed her one of his patented smiles and said, I'm not sure who Mr. Kensington is, I'm new here. My name is Rocts. I'm running the Desire now. How may I help you?

Oh, no that's okay. I just need to find your accounting department. I'm sure someone else can point me in the right direction.

She started backing out of the door and Rocts felt a slight sense of desperation. He couldn't let her get away, this delectable woman that was such a contrast. Her clothes were all business, but her voice was sweet and sultry.

You know I actually need to go to the accounting department myself. Let's find it together, shall we?

Her lips quirked up at the side and it made her face soften. He had a sudden uncontrollable desire to see what she looked like laughing. Leading her through the labyrinth of halls he turned his charm up to full.

So have you been here long Miss Winter? May I call you Georgia? Such a beautiful name.

Thank you, no. I prefer to keep things professional where I work and I actually just arrived today. I'm here to conduct an audit of the Desire's books.

Undeterred by her response Rocts continued to try to extract information but proved unsuccessful. Each time he asked her a personal question she would raise an eyebrow at him and politely decline to answer. If she didn't look so damn cute when she did it he'd feel defeated. Instead, each time she turned him down his interest grew until they were standing in front of the clearly marked Accounting Department.

    Here we are.

Thank you. I appreciate you guiding me. It would have taken me much longer to find it on my own.

Any other person and he would have taken that as a good sign, but she was clearly just being polite. Unwilling to leave Miss Winter just yet he opened the door for her and followed her into a large office.

    Oh, my.

The room looked like a bomb had exploded and with recent events it took Rocts a few seconds of close inspection to confirm that one hadn't.

Frowning he said, What the hell happened here?

Tiptoeing through the scattered paperwork Georgia made her way to the large oak desk in the center of the room while Rocts stood by the door. Pulling out his cell phone he placed a call to security, hoping someone down there would have an answer.

I think this might explain things.

Her lips were curled in distaste as she pointed to the lone sheet of paper on the desk. Striding through the room, not bothering to step over the discarded papers, Rocts picked the sheet of paper up and read it. His jaw clenched and he fought back the urge to let loose a stream of expletives. Evidently their accountant didn't appreciate a Nian and human dating.

Crumbling up the paper Rocts prepared to throw it away when Georgia stopped him.

You might want to keep that so you can pursue legal action against him.

    Excuse me?

Clearing her throat, her chin jutted out when she met his eyes. You should keep that as evidence in case you need to sue Mr. Kensington. It’s disgusting. If he stole from you or did anything to the books it shows that what he’s done is a hate crime.

Curious at her response he asked, Aren’t all crimes hate crimes?

Never mind. I can stick around and try and clean up this mess or you can contact the accounting firm that Mr. Kensington was with and see if they’ll send someone else out. What do you want to do?

Shit. She expected him to make a decision. Of course she did, he was in charge. A lightbulb went off and he gave her a grin that had melted the heart of many a Nian woman. No response from her.

Clearing his throat, he shifted on his feet and looked around the room before saying, "I think it’s pretty clear we won’t be
