I Introduction

This book has been written for those contemplating or preparing to serve as the Music Director or Song Leader on a Walk to Emmaus or Chrysalis weekend. The primary purpose of this book is to discuss the music of the weekend surrounding The Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis movements. (Additional Library Series Books provided by The Upper Room discuss other facets of the weekend.)

Although the Emmaus and Chrysalis weekends are similar in structure, the talks for each come from a different viewpoint. The participants on the Walk to Emmaus typically have a more mature Christian walk, even though their life experiences will be varied. A Chrysalis Flight is designed for young people who are often just beginning their faith journey. High-school-aged students attend Chrysalis Flights while college-aged students attend Chrysalis Journeys. Flights and Journeys are similar and will be covered interchangeably in this book when speaking of Chrysalis. The structure of The Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis weekends will be discussed in detail separately within this book.
