      Fuck Mary Jane, Sam whispered. He was cracking open a bottle of Corona for a customer and was slipping the lime into the neck when he said it. I knew exactly what he was talking about. MJ was about as useful as tits on a bull, and she was making our jobs harder by the second.

      I did my best to bite my tongue. Yeah, she was giving us the wrong drink orders and costing us tips. And she seemed to skip out on any sort of cleaning or upkeep at the end or beginning of her shift. But she also was fucking Kenneth, the owner, and I knew better than to tussle with those girls. Two years ago, when I first started working for Ken, he was dating this black chick that would start fights with the bartenders all the time. I saw four guys get fired for crossing her, so I was weary about trying to rock the boat.

      I walked into the kitchen and started talking to Bobby while he was washing dishes. He was talking about a party that he went to over the weekend when Mary Jane came walking over with a pile of trays and dishes about three feet high. She dumped them half-assed on the metal sink and wiped her hands on her apron.
