Grandfather's Pendant (A Larian Elesir Story): Larian Elesir, #4
()
About this ebook
Larian's comrade-in-arms and friend, Jiles, received a family heirloom in the mail: a pendant from his deceased grandfather. Then he lost it during a night of liberty in Mirasol, a town near their Company's camp.
Larian agrees to help Jiles find his lost heirloom. Their search brings them into the heart of Mirasol's underworld, where they encounter dangers they did not expect during a simple night of liberty.
Grandfather's Pendant is a 8,300 word novelette, and is the fourth of Larian's adventures. His earlier adventures are chronicled in Michael Kingswood's earlier stories: How NOT To Rescue A Damsel In Distress, Measuring Up, and First Blood.
Michael Kingswood
Michael Kingswood has written numerous science fiction and fantasy stories, including The Pericles Conspiracy, The Glimmer Vale Chronicles, and the Dawn of Enlightenment series. His interest in scifi/fantasy came at an early age: he first saw Star Wars in the theater when he was three and grew up on Star Trek in syndication. The Hobbit was among the first books he recalls reading. Recognizing with sadness that the odds of his making it into outer space were relatively slim, after completing his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, he did the next best thing - he entered the US Navy as a submarine officer. Almost seventeen years later, he continues to serve on active duty and has earned graduation degrees in Engineering Management and Business Administration. Fitting with his service onboard Fast Attack submarines (SSNs), he does his writing on Saturdays, Sundays, and at Night. He is married to a lovely lady from Maine. They have four children, and live wherever the Navy deems to send them. Grandfather's Pendant
W here the hell is it ?
Jiles said.
Jiles was clearly upset. He pawed through his belongings frantically, throwing various and sundry personal articles all over his corner of the tent in his search for...whatever it was. He was normally the neatest of Larian's tent mates, hardly ever leaving anything out of place at all, so something was clearly wrong.
Jiles...
The slender man shot a glare at Larian that made his teeth shut with a soft click, stifling what he was about to say.
Clearing his throat, Larian tried a different tactic. He began gathering up the items that Jiles had strewn around and brought them back to Jiles' corner, where he folded then stacked them neatly.
Jiles watched Larian doing this for a few minutes, in between soft curses and more pawing through what few belongings he had left that were not scattered all over the place, his expression growing more and more annoyed. Finally, he straightened and scowled.
What are you doing?
Larian shrugged. If the Sergeant were to step in here right now, we would all get latrine duty for the next week.
He left the rest unsaid, instead focusing on carefully folding one of Jiles' undershirts.
Jiles blinked then looked around the tent. His eyes went wide and he flushed with embarrassment. Oh,
he said weakly, his tone noticeably mollified from its earlier angry snap. Good thinking.
