About this ebook

Lovely.

Gwen glared at the swiftly sinking Drifting Cloud and cursed her luck. Mother giving birth, Captain Nia's leg broken, everyone else busy with a myriad of disasters: this was all on her.

Something had punched a hole in the Drifting Cloud's hull and it was Gwen's job to figure out what.

If only she could do it without her former friend Sila dogging her steps.

    Luck of the Dana

The Drifting Cloud wallowed at the dock. It sat so low that it looked like a garbage scow heading out to sea to dump the trash instead of a graceful trading ship that sailed around the world. Smaller ship, sure, only two masts instead of three or five. The bright Dana blue sails were tattered, too, supposedly shredded by a sudden gale that'd caught it just outside of Aingeal Bay .

Gwen winced. There's been no sign of a storm in the bay. In the city. Here.

That wasn't going to go over well with the authorities. The new dock inspector was Delbhana appointed and she liked to find fault with absolutely everything the Dana did. With everything going on right now, it fell to Gwen to talk to the woman.

Lovely. Just what she needed on a day full of injuries, visiting trade partners and her mother giving birth. Right now.

What in the Morrigan's hells happened to that ship, Dana? the dock inspector Whalen Sila shouted.

She marched over, rocking side to side like a barrel being wiggled into place. About as wide as one, too. For all that she was as round as an egg and soft as a pillow, Gwen knew from past fights that Sila had solid muscle under her curves. They weren't too far off in age, Sila twenty compared to Gwen's seventeen. They'd run the same crowd of kids when they were little, at least until Sila's older sister had married a Delbhana boy. Then there was no more friendship or spending time
