    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    CHAPTER 1

THE WILMSLOW-MOORE FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL GALA at the Metropolitan Museum of Art had been in the planning stages for the last nine months and the big day was finally here.

The prestigious event had been circled on the calendars of New York’s elite for months. The major, heavy-weight movers and shakers of industry were gathered in one venue. Plied with copious amounts of alcohol and primed to schmooze their way through a nine-course feast which was prepared by the world’s best five Michelin star recipient Chef Marcel Conte. This was a tactic to assure guests that high-quality food was to be served which would tantalize even the dullest palate while everyone donated generously to the cause.

Chef-in-residence Marcel Conte had imported the most sublime caviar specially for the occasion. Arguably, it was the most delicious caviar that his protégé, Nicole La Fevre, had ever tasted. Nicole had quickly risen through the ranks at Chateau Marmont’s Riviera restaurant and had worked with Marcel just shy of six months. He’d been sleeping with her for the last two months.

She swept her pinky finger lightly across the surface of a small gold-plated coffret-a- bijou of caviar she inhaled the raw, sea-salted aroma slowly. Marcel watched her finger disappear into her mouth. The rush of moisture released into her mouth as she savored the roe’s exquisite texture and saltiness.

"You were right. This is the best I’ve ever tasted." Nicole pulled away from Marcel and reluctantly got into her bath robe. Marcel watched her slink away from him and then rested his head against the pillows.

While he thrived on the pressure of producing such a delectable, creative work of magic for guests, catering for grand scale events completely bored him.

The butterfly had arrived at the Museum. He’d changed into the black and white waiter’s uniform provided for him as arranged by his contact, and had slipped away from the bustle of the kitchen. He made his way towards the Renoir. In very little time he’d bypassed the Museum’s security protocols, diverted the security camera’s links to the next room, taken the painting from its gold frame, and replaced it with a forgery. Next, he walked the hallway on the sixth floor and used the wi-fi connection to siphon funds out of the wealthiest guests’ bank accounts after his contact had given him the password.

After tonight’s event was over, he planned to fly to London and make his move on the Swiss client he’d spent months charming out of her Agent Provocateur lingerie.

Her husband was in oil. He kept her interest through shiny gifts. His recent gift of breast implants had caught the butterfly’s eye. It had taken him over an hour to persuade her to allow him into her boudoir.

As soon as he touched her, he found that her breasts felt rock hard. He was instantly turned off. He was calm, but she was clearly very nervous and inexperienced by all accounts.

She was wound tighter than a clam in its shell, and he was exhausted. He’d used up most of his charm in just getting her to agree to a sit-down meeting with him. Even then, he’d had to work harder than he’d anticipated to coax her into bed. He’d have to up his game if he was going to keep to his schedule.

Now that he’d had her, although with great difficulty, he’d proceed to the next stage. Their business agreement. Tonight, he would receive his reward and the return on his investment. Her husband was getting the Renoir for his birthday but only the butterfly would know it was the real deal. The plan was to swap them out on his next visit to her boudoir. In exchange, she was gifting him untraceable shares in her husband’s company.

Marcel felt agitated by his companion now that he’d
