Wendy looked up at the apartment window. Was it the right one? She was almost sure. There was a light on inside, anyway — so if she was right, Lana was home.

With a deep breath she got out of the car, locked it and crossed the street, heels clicking on the tarmac. Her stomach was tight with nerves; she hadn’t felt like this since her first time. She’d been seventeen, going to her boyfriend’s house while his parents were out for the night, knowing what was going to happen and simultaneously thrilled and terrified. But that had been a different time, and she’d been a very different girl.

Wendy almost turned back at the front door, nerves overcoming her — what would she say when she pushed the buzzer, if Lana answered?
