About this ebook
Governments should regain responsibility for defining the lines of investment in research for medicines, since they are public goods, and to manage the basic research phase, disassociating them from production, distribution and sale.
The transatlantic trade and investment partnership (TTIP) between the EU and US will allow a more permissive european regulation on health and food for benefit of multinationals and to the detriment of european citizens.

1.Investment in Pharmaceutical Multinational Research.
The current system of research and development of new drugs is contrary to the health of the population in general. Only one out every five drugs on the market is innovative or improves the results of the previous ones. The problem is eightened as these new molecules are priced high and there is no official organization that ensures that these drugs are affordable for those who need them. Governments have allowed the pharmaceutical industry to decide which diseases to address and how many patients to treat. According to the World Health Organization, one third of people do not have regular access to medicines. If the production capacity exists, it will be the cost of the drug to determine the number of patients who die (the treatment of several weeks of sofosbuvir for hepatitis C costs 60,000 euros).
Governments finance 80% of basic research of therapeutic molecules, which is done at universities, hospitals and public centers, and pharmaceutical laboratories develop the ideas found by scientists from these public institutions at a cost of less than 8% of their billing. In fact, the final
