The problem of the presence of these compounds is exacerbated in the critical exposure windows that are, 72 days before conception for sperm, intrauterine stage and the first 2 years of the newborn. Regulation (EC) nº 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH) moves to the industry the responsibility to ensure that chemicals manufactured, imported, sold and used in the European Union are safe.

The chemical industry has registered some 130.000 synthetic substances at a rate of three new every day. For the great majority of these chemical compounds there is a general ignorance of its properties, uses and effects on the health of the population.

This considerable amount of synthetic chemicals, potentially toxic, along with the infinity of biological structures and processes that can be altered in our body make the probability of reaching the toxic effect enormous.

Some 1.500 substances have been evaluated as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) with the ability to imitate, block or alter hormones. They act as endogenous hormones, they alter their production and secretion and interfere in the function and elimination of these.

A regulation adopted by the EU in 2012 forced to Brussels, with a deadline of December 13, 2013, to establish scientific the criteria for the classification of EDCs.

After the action for failure to act, submitted by Sweden on July 4, 2014, the Court of Justice of the EU sentence, in December 2015, that the European Commission has infringed the Right of the Union for not regular in term, the use of these dangerous chemicals to humans and the environment.
