Hiram Gomez

Reverend Hiram Gomez was born again in 1979 on a hot July afternoon in the city of Chicago, Illinois. On his way to purchase drugs with a couple of friends, the Holy Spirit redirected their paths and they ended up at the home of one of the young men. The young man himself was in a backslidden condition, however, his family was born again and on fire for God. It was there that Hiram had an encounter with Jesus Christ. Although he was born and raised in church, Hiram did not fully understand the plan of salvation. Curious to know more, he became inquisitive with his friends sister. Within a matter of minutes she was leading him in a prayer of salvation to accept Jesus Christ as His Savior and Lord.Shortly after his conversion, Hiram was baptized in the Holy Spirit and became a student of the Bible, as well as an avid soul winner. A couple of years later he accepted the call to preach the gospel, and in 1982 began attending Rhema Bible Training College in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, he continued to reside in Oklahoma for several years before returning to Chicago, Illinois where he pioneered his first church. In 1993, Hiram joined the staff of Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, Illinois, where Dr. Bill Winston is the founder and Senior Pastor. He served there as an Associate Pastor, overseeing several ministry departments, as well as teaching in the Bible Training Center. In 1994, Hiram went on the road as an itinerant Bible teacher, and in 1995 pioneered his second church in Bolingbrook, Illinois. He is currently president and founder of Triumphant Living International, a ministry that is taking the uncompromised gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations, equipping the Church for effective evangelism, and empowering people to live victoriously. He is a gifted Bible teacher, author, and speaker, anointed with the ability to minister the Word of God in simplicity and the power of the Spirit. As He ministers the Word of God, the anointing is present in his meetings to remove burdens and destroy yokes.

    What Leaders are Saying

"After over forty years of ministry in Pentecostal circles, I can say that we have hurt ourselves with a lack of scholarship and have been known more for our exuberance than our clear understanding of Scripture. And while it is good for us to worship in spirit, it is also necessary for us to worship in truth. That is why I am pleased to recommend The Laws of Study and Meditation by Hiram Gomez. Hiram has given us easy-to-understand principles that enable any believer to dig into the Scriptures for themselves. I am confident that applying the laws of study and meditation found in this book will change your life."

"I have known Hiram Gomez for 31 years and I believe he is a man of integrity, a scholar of the Word of God, and one of the greatest teachers in the Body of Christ. I know as you read and meditate on this masterpiece that the Holy Spirit will move on you, you will not want to put it down, and you will grow in your relationship with Jesus!"

"The author challenges and teaches us how to thrust into the realm of meditation. Meditation was designed for the life of the believer, yet many other sects of faith are taking advantage of a law that was predestined for us. Every application is formatted in a simplistic and practical manner. This book is a must read for every believer; the information provided in this book goes far beyond literary accuracy. You are provoked to train and develop your human spirit. This missing component is the main concept that lies between conception and manifestation. It is the axle by which one wins or loses. Hiram has been given the weighty responsibility of imparting this truth to the 21st century believer, whose hectic and busy lifestyles often prohibit them from the discipline of waiting upon God. There is no doubt the articulation of each principle has been masterfully crafted for the reader. Upon completion of this book your life will never be the same."

"This handbook is an awesome resource for both the new believer and those who are mature in their spiritual walk. The teachings were a refresher and just what I needed at this time in my life. I loved the tests at the end of the chapter. Quite honestly, sometimes I had to go back and review the material to make sure I got the concept. Use these core principles and watch God move in your life."

"Hiram Gomez presents an easy-to-read eye opener. His use of scripture references and contemporary language transforms this biblically supported cause and effect exposition into an exhilarating powerful experience with JESUS, The Living Word. Hallelujah! Amen! Hiram includes a set of practical Bible study tools that benefit ministers and laypersons of all ages. This book motivates and challenges me to GROW."

"II Peter 1:21 says For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. I am certain that no matter where you are in you walk with our Redeemer, you will find Brother Gomez’s book enlightening, encouraging and edifying. I thank our Heavenly Father that our brother was so moved as to put pen to paper to create this inspirational text."

    Dedication

I’d like to first of all dedicate this book to all the men and women of God in ministry who have diligently taught the uncompromised Word of the living God. I esteem you highly and hold you in great honor for your integrity to the Word. I would not be where I am today without you. I am certain that there are millions of others who echo my sentiments.

Secondly, this book is dedicated to all of you in the Body of Christ who hunger and thirst for the truth. It is your desire to be enlightened that motivated me to write this book. May it help you tap into an abundance of revelation that will exalt you above measure in life.

Finally, I want to dedicate this book to the late Clarence Neff Starner, who was my friend and mentor for twenty four years. His life exemplified the love and humility of Jesus. I know that his investment in my life and ministry has reaped great rewards for him in heaven.

    Preface

I remember my born again experience as vividly as if it were videotaped in my mind. It was late in the summer of 1979. The Lord delivered me from drugs and had connected me with some Christians who were on fire for God.

Interestingly enough, when I got born again I immediately went back to church the following Sunday without anybody having to coerce me to go. It was spiritual instinct. I wanted to go. I needed to go.

However, I ended up going back to the only church that I knew to attend. This was not the kind of church where the members of the congregation were encouraged to bring their Bibles. And to this day, I still see thousands of people going to that same kind of church without Bibles in their hands. How very sad.

After two Sundays of powerless religion, I realized I was going to have to go elsewhere for the purpose of finding the proper food in order to grow up spiritually. I ended up calling the woman who led me to the Lord. I had known her family for ten years, so I felt I could trust her. Thank God I made that call. The rest is history as they say.

My journey for the truth led me across a path of experiences that I would not trade for anything in the world. I say that because all I have learned throughout the years, good and bad provided me with the knowledge and wisdom that has molded me into the person I am today. I not only learned from the good, but I also gleaned wisdom from the bad.

The problem with some folk in the Body of Christ today is that they see something they don’t agree with and they criticize it. They don’t realize God allowed them to see those things for the sake of discernment.

Instead of learning from it, they go away offended, judgmental, or critical. However, part of growing up spiritually is learning how to eat the hay and leave the sticks! C’mon, say amen to that!

When I set out to write this book, it was a divine revelation from God. The devil fought me every step of the way attempting to thwart the plan of God in my life from coming to pass. I am glad that I had a good foundation of the truth on the inside of me. Otherwise, I probably would have given up on the dream God placed in my heart.

The devil taunted me for years by feeding me lies about it. He would say "Who do you think you are trying to write a book about studying the Bible? You’re not a scholar! Heck, you didn’t even graduate from seminary. You graduated from a spirit filled Bible school that’s not even accredited! No one’s gonna read your book; especially denominational Christians. Why don’t you just give it up and throw in the towel on this one." If I would have listened to the devil, you would not be reading this book right now.

Nevertheless, I knew what God had given me as a mandate and I obeyed Him in spite of all that I have suffered along the way. Although this book is many years overdue, I’ve learned that delay is not denial.

My friend, don’t ever let the devil steal your dream just because of a few hindrances along the way. If there were no trials and tribulations to go through, you wouldn’t have a story to tell. That’s what a testimony is: the story of a test! Glory be to God!

As I began to grow in the things of God, the purpose of my calling began to unfold in my spirit. The process of that got muddied along the way because I had more zeal than knowledge. The mistakes I made in the ministry certainly hindered me in terms of time, but thank God for His unending mercy and grace. The Bible says in Proverbs 24:16 that "…a just man falleth seven times, but riseth again…" That is a big part of my testimony.

As the level of my knowledge began to catch up with my zeal, the law of progression began to take root and I eventually became grounded in the Word. What I thank God for more than anything else (other than the new birth) is that from day one He delivered me from religion. I have never read or studied the Bible from a religious point of view. I have always accepted the Word
