CURRENT INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT AND BUSINESSES
China, a $ 10 trillion economy growing at 7 percent annually is a never before seen force reshaping our global economy. Over the last three decades, the Chinese government has at times opened the door wide open for foreign companies to participate in economic growth, and on other occasions, it has kept the door closed. While some global manufacturers, such as automotive original-oriented manufacturers have turned China into their single largest source of profit, others, especially in the service sector have been challenged to capture a meaningful share of revenue.
There are several trends shaping growth and creating new opportunities in China. Currently, there is more focus on domestic consumption and infrastructure as the new sources of economic growth following the decline of real estate and net exports. We cannot conclusively say that this strategy is sustainable, but first, there must be an evolution of several trends, the most important being work on government policy on international businesses.
GOVERNMENT POLICY
Government policy remains the very critical shaping force. The Chinese government is strategic, and it looks like it is unwilling to loosen its market restrictions in most cases unless it is in the exchange of technologies that China thinks will facilitate its rise to the next level of development.
Doing business can be very political in China. It is a territory in which the government still plays an outsized role in the economy (to be fair, Chinese entities doing business in the US and other countries can also get quite political).
China has rapidly transformed from a capital-starved country to a capital-abundant one. It has learned
