A Strip Poker Game For Samantha

Ian had been at the table for most of the evening, raking in big money in his favorite casino in Vegas and he decided to finally retire to his room. He was hungry, but did not order anything from room service. Instead he was craving a good smoke meat sandwich so he set about town to find a good place to get what his heart desired. He got in a cab and asked the driver to drive him to the best sandwich place in town. The cabbie told him he might know a place.

Please drive me there. I am starving, said the young man.

No problem sir, replied the cabbie that got on the street and headed in town. After half an hour of driving the cabbie stopped to a sort of drive in place. It looked very retro, but also very inviting.

    Is that it? asked Ian.

Yep. As far as I know the best place in town to eat a smoke meat sandwich that won’t cost you a hundred bucks and that is a delight to eat, said the driver.

    OK then.

Ian gave his fare and a good tip to the driver and went inside. It was around 11 at night. The place was deserted, but Ian continued to walk in the restaurant.

Sorry we are closed, said a voice from one end of the restaurant.

Oh I am sorry I did not know, replied Ian who was about to leave.

Wait. Maybe I can help you, replied the voice in was in the shadows.

I don’t want to impose, said the young man.

It’s OK really. What would you like? replied the feminine voice.

I am in the mood for a smoke meat sandwich and I was told this is the place in town to come and get the best one.

You are flattering me young man, said the young woman who appeared behind the kitchen door.

Ian was stunned. He was looking at a surreal beauty.

    Wow, he murmured.

What did you say? said the waitress.

    Nothing, he replied.

You are lucky you are in here. Guess I forgot to close the door and I was cleaning up in the kitchen. Silly me, replied the young woman.

What is your name? asked the young woman.

My name is Ian, he softly replied.

Mine is Samantha. Sam for short, said the young woman.

    Nice, replied Ian.

So you said you wanted a smoke meat sandwich? asked Sam.

Yes, well, if this is still possible. Ian said.

Sure. I actually have some available. What would you like on your sandwich?

    Surprise me, said Ian.

    Anything else, she replied.

Nope, just the sandwich and a tall glass of cold milk if you have some, Ian replied.

Lucky for you I do have some, said Sam.

If I leave you alone here, will you behave? asked Sam

Sure. I mean you no harm, there would be no point, replied Ian.

    Why that is? asked Sam.

"Let’s just say that robbing you would be a nonsensical since I won a couple hundred grand tonight at the games downtown, replied Ian.

    I see, replied Sam.

Can you go close the door and put the closed sign on and dim the light while I go do a super sandwich for you, asked Sam.

No problem, said Ian who got up and did as requested.

Sam disappeared to the back for a while. Ian sat down and looked around. The store was pretty retro. A throwback to the drive-in of the 60s, very inventing very fun.

He saw a jukebox in the corner and went to it.

Wonder if it works, he said as he got a few quarters from his pockets.

He dropped the change in and selected a song.

The song began to play much to his enjoyment.

Wow, it does really work. That is nice.

He went back to his stool and sat down. Sam came back a few minutes later.

I see that you put a song on, she said.

Yes. I like old rock n roll music, Ian replied.

    I do too, said Samantha.

You have chosen the best song in the jukebox, she said as she started to wipe tables while Sam began to eat his sandwich.

Wow, this is great Samantha. I have never tasted such a good sandwich. Ian replied.

I have my own special recipes. Straight from the 60s, she replied.

    Really? asked Sam.

    Yes, said Samantha.

They knew how to do good sandwiches back then. My mother used to work in a drive-in restaurant like this. She kept all the best recipes and I learned how to do them, replied Samantha.

That’s nice, replied Ian who was eating his sandwich.

What are you doing here anyways? asked Ian after a few moments.

What do you mean? replied Samantha.

Well, I don’t see you as Vegas material. What brought you here? asked Ian.

Oh that, she replied with a pause.

I came here with my husband a couple of years ago. He was big time contractor who worked on the most recent prominent buildings in town. As a pastime for me he built me this small drive-in so I can keep myself occupied. Sadly, one day there was an accident on one of his building sites and he got killed, said Sam.

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. I did not mean to bring such sad memories for you, said Sam all saddened by this.

No worries Ian, that’s life. I have learned to deal with it, replied Sam.

I don’t know why I still keep the place going, but I guess I feel I should honor his memory, but it is so hard to be without a man your life, she continued.

You mean you are single? asked Ian.

Yes, replied Samantha who continued to wash the top of her tables.

That’s a real shame I must say, said Sam as he continued to eat his sandwich.

It is what it is. I don’t have time to go out much with this place. I make money, but I cannot rely on anybody else so I must run this mostly alone. I got a few other girls, but really cannot grow my staff as big as I want so I can really have some time off, said Sam.

It’s not easy to run a business, said Ian.

Nope, even though it’s the American dream and it seems to be one hard lesson after another, she said as she picked up some glasses on a table.

"Yes, it is not easy to succeed, said Ian.

And what are doing here precisely? she asked.

I play poker. I just roam around and try my best to win and or not be skinned alive if I lose. The game has been mostly good for me so far, replied Ian.

Ah, I see, replied Sam as she put the dishes on her counter.

I just walked out tonight with fifty grand. I am pretty happy with that. Ian
