Similar to their superhero chapter book series, Capstone now has "choose your own adventure" superhero stories featuring Batman. This book has eleven possible endings which are about 50/50 with Batman winning or the villain getting away. I like Clayface so this was a fun story for me and the choices can take you on a path of three different plots making re-reading fun. Each one has Clayface as the villain but they have different situations. In one Clayface goes after the man who made him this way, another he shows up at a TV show convention appearance of a TV superhero and the other features Zatanna helping Batman against Clayface. I prefer the chapter books myself but kids will enjoy the variety in re-reading this book.

KRA-KOOM!

It is a dark and stormy night in Gotham City. Heavy rain falls down in sheets as bolts of lightning slice through the darkness. A sleek black vehicle streaks through the puddled streets. Bystanders stop in awe at the sight of the armored car.

The Batmobile! someone gasps.

The Batmobile belongs to Batman, the Dark Knight of Gotham City and the World’s Greatest Detective. He’s investigating the recent kidnapping of Mayor Hamilton Hill.

Batman speaks into a monitor on the Batmobile’s dash. All the clues lead to the old clock tower on the roof of the Town Hall building, Alfred, he says.

Alfred Pennyworth is a gray-haired gentleman with a black mustache, and Batman’s loyal butler. Yes, I did read the article about the Mayor calling for the demolition of the clock tower, sir, Alfred recalls. It was the day before his disappearance.

We know of one criminal with a clock obsession, as well as a huge grudge against Mayor Hill, Batman states.

The Clock King! exclaims Alfred.

Precisely, old friend, says Batman. And time is of the essence. Let’s hope I’m not too late!

Batman pulls up in front of Town Hall. The building’s main feature is the huge clock at the top.

A flash of lightning outlines the silhouette of a man standing near the clock. SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER! shouts the man from above.

I’ve got the Clock King in my sights, Alfred, Batman says. Over and out.

Good luck, sir, Alfred replies.

The Dark Knight exits the Batmobile. He aims his grapnel gun at one of the clock’s hands and fires. PAF!

A steel cable shoots into the air. The hook at the end grips the large metal minute hand. The cable retracts, hoisting Batman into the air.

WHOOSH!

The Caped Crusader lands on a ledge next to the clock tower.

Good evening, Batman, crows the Clock King. He takes a bow and tips his bowler hat at Batman. You’re just in time for your doom!

Where is Mayor Hill? Batman growls.

Oh, he’s a little tied up at the moment! laughs the villain.

Inside the tower, large metal gears grind and squeal. CREEEAAK! The mayor is gagged and tied to the large moving part — it’s about to roll into another huge gear!

Looks like Mayor Hill’s term will expire sooner than expected! the Clock King sneers.

Batman leaps into
