Serving a Billionaire - Peggy Forbes

Kate! Jack said, his cheeks flush with embarrassment as he hastily buttoned his over shirt and tried to smooth his jostled hair. In the background, Elissa put the sheer cover up back over the shiny halter top she had worn home from the theater the night before.

How did you find me? Jack asked.

You’re in the paper, I said coldly picking up the paper I had brought with me and showing him the article with his accompanying picture on the front page.

    I didn’t think- Jack began.

Didn’t think I’d read it? I asked him. He looked down at the ground, still blushing and began fiddling with his cuffs.

Look, Elissa said coming to the door and looking awkwardly between the two of us, if you two need to talk in private, I can head out.

I think that would be best, Jack said to her, thanks Elissa. I’ll see you tonight.

She passed by Jack and touched his arm suggestively before reaching up on tip toe and giving him a lingering kiss on the cheek. The same sort of kiss Jack had given me the night before. The knot in my stomach tightened and I felt tears begin to well in my eyes. I swallowed them back as Elissa pulled away from Jack.

I’ll see you later, she whispered to him before turning to give me a superior sort of look and exiting the room. I noted that Jack did not look at Elissa as she left but kept his eyes fixed on the floor.

Kate, look, he said finally, that was not what it-

I don’t care what that was, I lied. The tears were still threatening to fall down my cheeks. I took a deep breath to hold them in.

"I care that you lied to me."

I didn’t lie, Jack said finally lifting his eyes to mine. I was surprised to see that the tears which threatened to pour down my eyes seemed to fill his as well.

You didn’t tell me the whole truth, I said defiantly, you didn’t tell me who you were or who you worked for.

"I knew you would never have agreed to see me if I
