About this ebook
Why is our society intoxicated with vampires? Is it because the male vampire characters have been romanticized by movies and book covers? Be prepared to learn something you never knew about the vampire and take a trip down memory lane within this book.

I've had a fascination with vampires since I was a child so that tends to be my subject matter. Halloween is my favorite holiday! I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, reading, writing reviews, watching movies, Reiki and listening to music. I'm intrigued by the paranormal and enjoy doing research for my stories. I was an exchange student in Brasil during high school so you will find references to that in some of my stories. I'm living the American Dream!

A Society Intoxicated with Vampires - Jodie Pierce
Chapter One
She woke with a burning hunger in the pit of her stomach. She looked around trying to determine where she was. Best she could tell, she was in a mausoleum, hopefully still in her home town of Rio de Janiero, Brasil but she had no way of knowing for sure. She looked down at herself and her clothes had been stripped off except for her slip. Her legs and knees were dirty and full of grass, her hands looked like she’d been digging in the soil and there was dirt caked under her fingernails. Her normally blonde hair was dirty, her eyes were sunk into her face but her lips were bright red and very plump.
She couldn’t remember what had happened the night before. She remembered getting ready to go to the discoteca with her friends but after she left her apartment, her memory had been erased. She didn’t remember faces, going to the club or anything. It was like it never happened in her mind.
Suddenly the stone door opened and from behind the figure she could tell it was still dark outside.
Quem é você? Onde estou? (Who are you? Where am I?)
She demanded.
Calma (Calm down)
came the gentle voice out of this rather large man. Fala Ingles? (Do you speak English)?
He asked. She held up her hands indicating a small amount. Bom. Você se lembra como chegou aqui (Good. Do you remember how you got here)?
he asked. She shook her head ‘no’. He smiled and the breath that came out of him smelled rancid to her and made her stomach heave. Back to her stomach, she noticed the tray he had brought in with him. There was a large, bloody steak and a Styrofoam cup with a straw. She reached for it and when she took a drink of it, it was something she’d never tasted before but calmed down the demons in her stomach. Bom. Come (Good. Come eat)
he said to her. She reached and brought the tray over to in front of her. She cut into the steak, at first disgusted by the steak blood but once she put it into her mouth, the juices passed down her throat and her body pulsated with pleasure.
Onde estou? (Where am I?)
she asked timidly.
No Rio de Janeiro, Cemetery São João Batista (In Rio de Janiero, in Saint John the Baptist Cemetery).
Você está bem? (You okay)?" He asked. She slowly nodded ‘yes’. He promptly stood and headed towards the door. When the cement from the door scraped the cement on the floor she looked up with a mouthful of steak.
Não vai (Don’t go).
she said.
Eu preciso fazer umas coisas, eu já volto (I have things I need to do. I will return)
he said right before he shut the door and she heard the lock click in the door locking her in. She ate the rest of her tray of food alone and cold. She’d wished for more clothing and a shower. She felt disgusting.
Chapter Two
The night and day passed slowly for her. When she saw a little darkness coming from around the door, it slowly opened and the man returned. He sat down next to her with a Portuguese/English dictionary and handed it to her.
Voce precisa aprender Ingles (You need to learn English)
he said to her. She opened the dictionary which held a Brazilian flag between the Portuguese and English sections, right in the middle of the book. She looked over the English words, never understanding how she was going to learn it like the man wanted.
The man took her hand in his and with his other hand pointed his index finger towards his chest.
Thomas
he said, indicating his name. He took her hand and pointed her finger at her chest and waited. It took her a minute but she finally realized what he wanted.
Não sei (I don’t know)
she said confused and again wishing she could remember what had happened to her.
Christiane
the man said pointing to her. Her name was Christiane. She wished she’d knew how he knew it and she didn’t. Surely she should’ve known her own name so she was sad again.
Sol fala no Ingles agora (Only speak English now)
he said. She gave him a panicked look and shook her head ‘no’ all while trying to get up. He gently sat her back down and nodded ‘yes’.
In the early 1800’s I came to Brazil and took hold of the Navy. We defeated the Portuguese and ran them out of Brazil. I then disappeared until you dug me up. You see, your mind was so open that I was able to call to you, have you dig me up and put you in here all without you remembering a single thing
he said proudly. She just looked at him dumbfounded.
She tried to mimic his original words exactly but was confused. She looked through the dictionary and finally found the words.
My namee is Christiane
she said slowly but was very proud of herself afterwards. Thomas grinned at her and hugged her.
Very good
he said happily.
Very good
she mimicked. The two of them laughed together but the light around the door was pressing them for time.
Go to sleep beautiful (Vai dormir linda)
he said stroking her hair. She lay down on the cold floor and closed her eyes. When her breathing was long and at the same pace, he knew she was asleep. He then left for his usual resting place close to Christiane so he could keep an eye on her. Luckily, vampires never sleep soundly. They only slumber so they are aware of everything around them. He’d pop out of his resting place if anyone found Christiane so as to protect her since she was the key to his future.
Chapter Three
Thomas rose before Christiane that next day. He was sure to be silent so as not to wake her. She was a half-breed now, part human and part vampire thanks to his lust for blood as soon as she dug him out of his grave. His blood was so strong that there was no need for the typical routine of creating a vampire. After he fed on her, he had her drink from him before dumping her in the mausoleum. He wasn’t sure how long his powers would last after all these years straight out of the grave so he was quick to make her.
Being a half-breed, she could walk during the daylight hours and eat mostly anything she wanted as far as human food goes but she had to drink blood too to satiate the vampire part in her. That’s what was in the cup last night that she greedily drank from, unknowingly. When she started to stir, even he jumped. She was very groggy when she woke and sat up but didn’t run from him so he was fairly sure she remembered last night.
My namee is Christiane
she said proudly. The two of them smiled at each other but for two completely different reasons. He was proud of her English and happy she remembered the previous nights’ activities. She was happy about her English. He stood her up and let her get her bearings before he shoved the dictionary in her hand again.
Find house tonight
he said in English. He pointed out the corresponding Portuguese words, took her hand and the two of them walked out of the mausoleum. He was very happy she didn’t try to run but she seemed completely attached to him at the hip.
He refused to live in the favelas where they could have blended in more and had more of a food source, an apartment was not conducive to his plans but he hadn’t stashed away all the gold he’d had before he was taken and buried alive for nothing. They walked to the edge of the cemetery before he stopped. He knelt down at the gate’s entrance and started digging. Christiane followed suit though she had no idea what Thomas was digging for. Not very long into it, Thomas found the large chest he’d been looking for. The two of them pulled it up and it took the two of them to carry it down the road.
When he had went out the previous night, he coerced a particular bank manager to give him the title to an abandoned house he’d found. He promised the manager he’d pay him in gold the next day so their first stop was at his house. The man had been waiting on the stoop for him and seemed very pleased when Thomas opened the chest and pulled out two gold bars and handed it to him. The man shook Thomas’ hand, went back inside and turned off the light.
Thomas and Christiane now headed to their new home. When they entered, they found all the furniture covered in sheets. He started taking off the sheets and Christiane followed his lead doing the same. They moved methodically, completely in sync to finish up the house. They stopped and surveyed their surroundings and the furnishings. They were antiques to Christiane but Thomas remembered the era that they were all new. They went back upstairs and Thomas pointed to all the open doored bedrooms.
Pick
he instructed. Christiane looked a little confused before realizing what he wanted her to do. She looked in the door of each of the rooms before picking a red walled room with black flowers across the top border. She ran in and jumped on the bed. He laughed at her playfulness. He came in and started opening the drawers and closet to show
