To Caroline, Brecken, Brenna, Bailey, and Chantel – my five daughters. I won’t be here see you go through menopause (hopefully), but this book will be as true when you do as the day I wrote it. So I write it for you – to protect you when I can’t. I cry now for you as I write this and hope that doctors are as caring and understanding as your dad, in that day so far in the future. You know I would be there to hold your hand and be sad at the passing of your youth, if I could.

I do hormone research (really endocrinology research) and product development and essential oil product development. I am currently not specifically working with any company (this for AMA and FDA reasons) though we manufacture for several. SO please forgive me if I don’t mention products of various companies with who I work, as the FDA is highly scrutinizing all these comments and claims – so we’re just not going there.
I also do a lot of education and speaking events.
So I get asked about essential oils and women’s issues all the time – as a matter of fact a few years back I had a book called THE TOP 7 HEALTH QUESTIONS WOMEN ASK ABOUT but is was all about essential oils. It’s that book I always get asked about. But I pulled it for a rewrite and never revisited it.
Until today.
This is a culmination of years of medical experience, checking thousands of lab levels on women who are using essential oils for their health concerns, and my own research and observations.
But I am going to keep this simple and with no fluff – here it is. This is what works – and those of you who follow me (you 30,000+ Facebook fans) and all my other book fans) know inherently that I know of which I speak. So, like I said, here it is.

What Happens in Menopause
All women, if they live long enough, will go through menopause.
By definition the word menopause means no menses (period) for six months or a year (according to which definition you use).
And as most of you know I do pituitary research so I think everything starts there.
Menopause can be natural (the average age for natural menopause in the USA is 51 years of age), or traumatic or surgical. Trauma can be to the ovaries, or to the pituitary – either will cause ovarian failure. (I’ve also seen ovarian failure caused by malnutrition or vitamin deficiencies but that’s for another day, time and book.)
In menopause, with your ovaries having failed, you will no longer produce at least five hormones:
1. Progesterone
2. Testosterone
3. Estradiol
4. DHEA
5. Pregnenolone
But to get to menopause you’ll usually have to go through peri-menopause. This is where your progesterone levels and production drop. Causing you to hot flash/flush, night sweat, get headaches and suffer from insomnia. Peri-menopause can start years before or months before actual menopause occurs and for most women this is a misery. As a matter of fact for most women this is the worst misery regarding menopause or at least it seems that way.
Also your testosterone level and production drops to almost zero (you’ll always make some in your fat by converting DHEA so it might not ever go away completely). This will cause muscle wasting,
