    Note to Readers

Music Under the Mistletoe was originally intended as a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year gift from the Raining Chaos bandmates to all of you.  Although this book is Christmas themed, the story furthers the series and will bring you up to date on the band members.

This is a republish of the book Music Under the Mistletoe originally published with a publisher.  This edition has been re-edited and some additional content added.  If you have already purchased Music Under the Mistletoe you will not need to repurchase for any updates.  The story itself has remained the same, and only some details were changed.

Look for Tempting Flame, a brand new release in the Raining Chaos Series to be released soon too.

    Chapter One

    ––––––––

    Chaos...

C’mon you fucktards.  If we don’t get these tracks laid we’ll be stuck here for Christmas.  Now stop fucking around already.  This was getting old and fast.  Yeah, I know.  We’d been working almost non-stop on this album for the last three weeks and before that all the touring, but this is what we signed up for when we decided to go for it.  At least I know I did.  What the others were thinking at this point who the fuck knew.

Sorry, Chaos.  We’ll be better, Sweets said as she punched Candy in the arm and gave the evil eye to Wrath, who was teasing Flame about Michelle for the millionth time.  He wasn’t the worst though, that honor definitely went to Rage who was causing the most trouble lately.  I knew it was because of Christmas but he needed to learn how to deal with the holidays, we weren’t kids anymore.

Rage, count us in, and let’s get this fucker done.  Turning toward the sound booth, I gave the signal to the guys letting them know we were ready, but timing is everything and just as I played the first note the studio door burst open and Cyn ran in holding my phone.

Trent, it’s Jack.  Something’s happened with Sally.  You need to talk to him.

Shit, we all knew she’d been sick but we thought she was getting better.  Hey, Jack, what’s up?

Sorry to bother you.  Sally’s going to have my head for this, but I had to take her to the hospital this morning.  Her bronchitis turned into pneumonia and she could barely breathe.  Oh my God she looked so pitiful lying in the hospital bed with all the tubes and wires connected to her.  I can’t lose her, I don’t know what I’d do.

Jack’s voice broke and I swear he was crying.  Hearing his fear shook me.  In all the years they’d been our foster parents, I’d never once seen a moment of weakness from him, not even a little.

It’ll be okay, Jack.  She’s a strong woman, she won’t let this get her.

From your mouth to God’s ears, son.  I sure hope you’re right.

I was surrounded and everyone was listening intently to my side of the conversation.  We needed to get to New Jersey as soon as possible.  It was payback time, they were the only parents most of us remembered and they needed us now.  The record would have to wait.

    Can we call her?

No, she’s in ICU.  I should have taken better care of her.  I let her wait too long to go to the doctor.

Jack, you love her, she knows that, but she’s one damn stubborn woman.  You can’t make her do anything and we all know it.

True.  Thanks, son.  I’ll call again when I know more.  Right now she’s on oxygen and hooked up to all these machines.  The doctor ordered a chest x-ray for the morning, so hopefully we’ll know more then.

Good.  She’s in good hands and she has you.  If you need anything at all call us.  We’re going to come home as soon as we can get a flight.  It was going to be a surprise for Christmas but we’ll come a few days earlier.

You don’t have to do that.  You need to get your album done.  It’s your job, your commitment.  You know how we feel about responsibility.

I shook my head even though I knew he couldn’t see me and I had to grin.  He was just as stubborn as she was.  They were the perfect couple and had been the best thing to happen to all of us.  Whether he liked it or not we were going home.

Don’t worry, Jack.  We’ve got things covered.

Don’t do anything foolish.  I need to get back in case she wakes up.  I’ll call in the morning.

Tell her we love her, and you take it easy, Jack.  You won’t help her at all if you get sick too.

    Bye, son.

    Bye.

I disconnected the call and looked around the room at the seven sets of eyes staring at me.  Sally is in ICU, she has pneumonia, at least that’s what they’ve told Jack so far.  He’s freaking out—and didn’t know a lot yet.  She’s getting a chest x-ray in the morning so I guess they’ll know more then.  I knew it would only be a matter of seconds before the silence in the room became a roar, and I didn’t have long to wait.

Cynda hugged me.  I knew she really liked Jack and Sally.  They’d met her for the first time when we’d done the secret show at the Bottom Line in New York so Wrath and Sapphire, err Teresa, could work things out.  She’d been sick then but she said she was feeling better.  So much for that.

We have to go home.  Candy had tears in her eyes and Sweets was holding her hand.  We have to be with her.  She was always there for us.

Nodding, I’d already made up my mind.  We were leaving as soon as we could get a flight.  I needed to find Joe.  He’d had a meeting at Symmetry Records about the album and the rest of the tour, and the shit going on with Dickman.  He was like a piece of shit stuck to the bottom of your shoe that you just couldn't get rid of.

Yup we’re going.  Cyn, can you try getting a hold of Joe.  We’ll finish this track then go pack.  Looks like it will be Christmas in New Jersey sooner rather than later.

Cyn grabbed my phone, kissed me, and went back into the control room.  The briefest touch of her lips was all it took to make me want to take her someplace secluded and make love to her.  We’d only been together a few months but I hoped this feeling would never go away.

Okay, guys, let’s get this shit done and go home.

Nodding, everyone took their places and Rage counted us in.  It finally came together.  It’s like we needed the extra push or some shit.  Whatever it was I was glad we’d finally gotten the track down, even if it took the call from Jack.  One take and we nailed it.  Still it was kind of ironic the track we’d been working on all day was Any Place but Home, and that’s exactly where we were headed.

    Wrath...

Shit.  I couldn’t believe Sally was in the hospital.  Blue said Sally had seemed better last time she’d gone by there.  I needed a smoke.  We’d finished for now and everyone was standing around talking while
