It's not everyday you watch the earth die.

It happened so quickly too. Like... snap, pop, bang... no more earth.

It was really something to see, from Moon Colony VII. After all, we were station here to monitor civilization. We had a front row seat to all the wars raging on the tiny blue planet. And a little magic button to end it all if the enemy finally won. It was a yellow button. But it's red now, from Henry's blood. More of an orange, really.

He had woke up this morning, announced there wasn't enough food to last the week, then pushed the button and shot himself. With the only bullet. Until then, I hadn't even known there was a gun on the station. I also hadn't known food was running out. I mean, I knew there wasn't going to be any new reinforcements with the space program having been canceled shortly after my arrival, but I wasn't aware of the whole supply situation. I guess being assistant button pusher kept me out of the loop. A very small loop containing only one person, Henry. Who was now rotting on the floor...

Well, the earth was gone so I guess I didn't have to work today. Nothing much to monitor except lava gushes. The food shortage was going to be rough. I suppose I should ration it, but then again it'd just take me longer to die. After all, it wasn't like help was on the way.

Maybe I should eat Henry. One last good meal...

Kinda makes me loose my appetite, just thinking about it.

I lock the monitor room, leave Henry the body in it. After the loss of the entire human race, I'm somewhat numb to the death of a co-worker. Oddly enough, I'm somewhat numb to the whole situation. I never had many friends, so I'm sure that plays a part in it, or perhaps it's just all to much for one human mind to handle. The very last human mind.

I drink coffee, read a little Heinlein, contemplate suicide. It seems the best way to pass the time.

A knock on the door startles me. Especially since it's a knock from the outer door, the docking door, the door that leads to the moon door.
