About this ebook

It seemed like a rhetorical question. Would you rather be a vampire or a zombie or a werewolf?

When Cindy Balken, the hottest girl in school asked a question, he answered. Suddenly Cindy was all over him and he wasn't about to blow his chance.

Cindy was all too willing to pass the curse along to anyone. It made no difference to her as long as she rid herself of it.

No problem. he would just pass it right back to her.

"Doesn't work that way, silly," she said. "And if you don't pass it along quickly, you will be a vampire for eternity."

His time was limited. He didn't want to suck anyone's blood but he also didn't want to die. When push came to shove, would he pass it on to a very willing victim?

There are plenty of twists if this story.

He might have to kill his best friend, Gage, before Gage killed him.

Or he could pass the curse to Marsha Mason. She seemed willing enough to become the victim. But why?

If push came to shove, could he force Cindy to help him?

Maybe not. Cindy had her own powerful secret.

    I'd Rather be a Vampire Than a Zombie - B.D. Knight

    Back Story

    I didn’t ask to be a vampire.

I mean, come on. I’m just a regular teenage boy who has the normal desires most teenage boys have. So when Cindy Balken made advances to me, what was I supposed to do? I mean I’m not a dork or anything but I’m certainly not a hunk either. Of course I would . . . I’m getting ahead of myself.

Thinking back on the whole thing, Cindy never really gave me the time of day until I said I wanted to be a vampire. She was the hottest girl in high school and she knew it. She played the fashion model thing to a tee and even had a stupid white poodle she liked to take on walks when she strutted around town while guys gawked at her and girls envied her.

Anyway, I didn’t actually say I wanted to be a vampire. It was just a stupid little game we were playing while our homeroom teacher was being attended to because she clunked her head against the side of her desk when she fainted. The paramedics decided it would be best to move her to the hallway so we didn’t get traumatized.

Yeah. Like we were gonna be traumatized when a teacher gets knocked out.

So while we waited Cindy stood up and asked for everyone’s attention. She didn’t actually ask. She stood on top of a desk and started wiggling her butt. That got us guys attention and I guess the girls were watching as well.

Let’s play a game, she said. If you had to be either a zombie, a werewolf, or a vampire, which would you choose?

Whichever one you choose, said Johnny Weaver, the class clown, and everyone laughed.

Seriously, said Cindy. How many would choose zombie?

Absolutely no one raised their hand. Is that a surprise? Who the heck would want to be a pale, stinking dead zombie wandering around drooling and trying to eat people’s brains?

Nice, said Cindy. I would think that would be the pits. OK, would anyone choose to be a werewolf?

There were hands in the air. Maybe half the class. Cindy looked surprised.

    Really? she said.

Yeah, said some scrawny kid whose name I didn’t even know. You only turn into a werewolf when there’s a full moon so if someone caged you, you could just wait it out and be normal the next morning.

That made sense. The mumbling around the room and the nods made the kid straighten up and grin. It was probably the only time he got so many people to agree with him. A few more people added their vote.

So that leaves the rest of you choosing vampire, said Cindy. Just for fun, raise your hand if you choose being a vampire.

My hand shot up along with probably four or five more kids. I was surprised. I thought more would choose vampire but I guess the nerd changed a lot of minds.

I admit I’m somewhat surprised more of you wouldn’t pick being a vampire, said Cindy.

Which did you choose? asked Johnny.

    I chose vampire, she said.

Cindy glanced around the room at those of us who decided we’d rather be a vampire if given the choice.

Why did you choose being a vampire? she asked Jenny Creer.

Jenny wasn’t as hot as Cindy but she was put together pretty good. Her and I would exchange glances and tiny smiles from time to time but I was too shy to made an advance. I liked her but was too afraid to tell her. I have no idea why. It was obvious from her smiles that she liked me too.

She certainly gave me chances to talk to her when I’d see her in the hall or after school. She’d come up to me and say hi and I’d say a quick and high pitched hi back to her and slip away.

I think living forever would be neat, said Jenny. The bad part would be having to suck people’s blood to survive.

Then why didn’t you choose being a werewolf? asked Cindy.

It doesn’t seem like a cage can actually hold a werewolf so I’d be afraid I would rip someone apart when I turned.

That got a few chuckles. Cindy nodded.

    That’s a good point.

She glanced around the room and stopped at me.

So why did you choose to be a vampire?

I froze. Did I mention I’m not exactly a smooth talker with girls?

Cat got your tongue? asked Cindy.

The class laughed. All except Jenny. I noticed she didn’t laugh.

Can you give us an answer before the next millennium? asked Cindy, followed by laughter in the room once again.

The door swung open and Cindy stepped down from the top of the desk.

You can go to your next room, kids, said Mr. Woofly, our gym teacher. Mrs. Marsh will be fine.

    Cindy Wants to Talk

I was sitting in math class, the last class of the day.

Billy, you never said why you wanted to be a vampire.

I looked over and Cindy was sitting in the seat next to me. That wasn’t her seat. Her seat was on the other side of the room at the front. She was smart so she was front of the room material. I kinda thought maybe she also liked sitting up front so guys could gawk at her. I wasn’t so smart so anytime I could I chose to sit at the back of the room.

    Where’s Gage? I asked.

Gage was my best friend and he sat next to me. At least until Cindy took his seat. I was still wondering how she knew my name. I didn’t think she knew I existed.

She turned up her palms and shrugged.

He’s in my seat. I guess he was having trouble hearing the teacher so I was nice enough to switch seats with him.

    But Mr. Countly doesn’t like . . .

Cindy flashed me the stop sign.

It’s all okay. Back to my question. Why would you like to be a vampire?

I didn’t say I wanted to be a vampire. You asked if we had to be one of the three, which would you choose. I chose vampire but I certainly don’t want . . .

"I understand but why did you
