CHAPTER 1
Monster in My Room
It all started with a scream, Dad, dad!
The young girl yelled, Come quick! There’s a monster in my room!
It seemed like it took a lifetime, but then, as the door opened and the light came in, there was her dad to finally make her feel safe. As he checked all around and under the bed, there were no monsters, creatures, or bugs in the room, just the young girl. Her name was Haedyn; she had long red hair. Her eyes were big and blue, and she was twelve years old (but acted much older). She was brave, daring, and had a big heart. Haedyn seemed to care about everyone. She loved animals, and she had just earned her brown belt in martial arts.
There she was in her bed, scared and worried she was being foolish, when she called for her dad. Her dad told her everything would be fine, kissed her on the cheek, and said goodnight. Haedyn heard her dad say, This is happening way too often. It’s time for me to make the monsters go away.
The next day at school, Haedyn was telling her friend, Amanda, about the monsters in her room. Amanda said they were in her room, too. They talked to some of their other friends, and they all came to agree that monsters were real, and they had all seen them! Haedyn told her friends that she heard her dad say he could make the monsters go away.
While Haedyn was at school, her dad, Lee, called a meeting of the Shadow Order to talk about all the monster sightings. The Shadow Order had been passed down for hundreds of years, teaching those who were gifted how to make monsters go away. It was a book of secrets, spells, monsters, and more—revealing their weaknesses and how to defeat them.
There was a council of six, which included two mortal men, two monsters, an elf, and a fairy. Wilder was the older of the two men. He was a kind, old man. Some said, maybe a little crazy, but very powerful. His hair was long and white; it looked as though it hadn’t been brushed in years. When people would first set eyes on him, they thought he was a homeless, crazy man.
Kurt was around thirty-years-old. He was power hungry, as is often typical with those in power. He was thin and very well kept. He had short brown hair and dark eyes.
Krunkel was the leader of the monsters. He was very kind, a kindness that comes with age. No one knew how old Krunkel was, but stories from 700 years ago had Krunkel in them. He was short with huge eyes, a big chest with arms to match, but very tiny legs.
Takara was the other monster; she was a master swordsman. Tall, very thin, with dark pools of black for eyes. She never really spoke much but, when she did, everyone listened.
Seric was sent by the King of Elves. He was quiet, always spoke last, taking in everything for his king. He wore simple clothes with a green cloak; he had long brown hair and black eyes.
Last, there was Tyria, and she did not like wasting her time with the council. It bored her, but she was sent by the fairy queen. She was very beautiful with long blond hair and sparkling blue eyes. She was no bigger than a banana.
There have been too many sightings lately, even my daughter has seen them,
Lee told the council.
Kurt scoffed, "Why should we
