    Attracting Ava

    By Kris Weeks

    Chapter 1

You will not leave me; I guarantee that. I have done nothing but take care of you! She yelled at him.

The man ran down the dark hallway and to the chained door. He banged on the door and rattled the chains in hopes that they would come loose. They didn’t. She approached him with a gun straight to his head.

He turned and looked her straight in the eyes.

Please don’t do this. I will love you, I promise. He begged of her.

No, I have given everyone way too many chances and will not give one more person another chance. You did this; not me! She exclaimed.

With an ease and an angered look in her eye; she pulled the trigger and watched him fall to the ground. Blood stained the brown door behind him. It made her even angrier that she had to clean up the mess before the morning crew got into work.

    ***

Ava Healy worked as an overnight medical transcriber for an urgent care clinic. She went in at nine pm every evening and worked until her job was done which was usually four or five in the morning. She spent the evenings with the whole clinic to herself every night. Some nights her boyfriend Ethan would come to visit her and sit with her while she worked and keep her company.

On this particular night; Ethan had texted and told her that he was on his way and he needed to talk to her about something. Ava was very excited because she had not seen

Ethan in a few days. She had been very busy writing during the day and working her other job at night.

Ava went to the glass doors and pulled the lever that slid into the top of the door frame and reached down and popped the deadbolt and waited for Ethan to pull in the parking lot.

The blue dodge charger pulled in and parked in the very first parking spot near the door in the. He opened the door of his car and Ava ran to him as he opened it and leaned in and gave him a kiss with her voluptuous lips. She let her tongue linger inside his mouth and ran both of her hands through his hair.

She pulled away and looked at him as he did not seem to reciprocate her excitement.

I’ve missed you babe. Ava told him.

    Me too. He said back.

What is wrong with you, is everything ok? Ava asked

Yeah, let’s go talk. Do you have a lot of work or can we hang out for a bit? Ethan asked getting out of his car.

Ethan was a tall man; he was skinny but strong and had black wavy hair that reminded Ava of a roller coaster. His eyes were the prettiest brown and he was always clean shaven. Ava adored Ethan and continued to adore him...until now.

No I’m good. Come one we can sit in the cafeteria. The fountain lights from the outside shining through the windows down there are pretty. Ava smiled.

Ava was tall and blonde. She was your average sized girl; not too skinny and well proportioned. She was a size eight with C breasts. She had almost a porcelain face except for the scar that she got when she was fourteen above her left eye from a fight she had in school with her boyfriend.

That is when her anger started. She never liked when a man betrayed her.

She got so angry that she saw fire.

There had been instances in her past that made Ava so angry that she wanted to hurt the people that had caused her the pain; and she had. No one else knew about the other two instances and she swore that she would control herself and had for years; until Ethan.

Ava had gone to college right after high school to become a medical transcriber for two years and had worked at the same location since she got out of school.

Her twenty seventh birthday was in three days and she just knew that Ethan was going to do something wonderful for her. Which Ava thought was the reason that he needed to talk to her.

Ava had been with Ethan for a little more than a year when she met him at Mercy Medical Clinic where she worked in her home town of Manner, Texas. He had come in for a check up on his wrist that he had broken a few weeks before and she had come in early to gather some information from the doctors she needed for that evening.

As soon as they saw each other they became fast friends and began dating a short time later. Months had gone by where they were inseparable. They spent every moment they could together. He treated her like an absolute queen and she worshipped the ground he walked on. They accentuated each other and everyone thought that they were a great couple. Everyone always questioned them as to when the wedding was.

After a few months of being with Ethan; he had hinted around about marriage. They had talked only briefly about it that one time and decided that it was not the right time for them to get married and decided to wait. However, now, over a year and he still had not asked her. She truly loved Ethan and always wondered why he would not ask her.

Let’s sit down. Ava guided Ethan to a table near the window in the dark cafeteria.

The fountain outside was made from pieces of different colored tile that had been put together in a large mosaic style; the water ran serenely down into a huge puddle captured by more green and red tiles. The lights shown up through the water and casted a beautiful green and red glow over the top of the fountain where the water erupted; which shined through the large plate glass windows that contained the cafeteria. Ava loved coming down there to just sit in the darkness and watch the light show flicker across the cafeteria walls.

"Ava, I need to tell you something.

This is really hard for me. But I want to be honest with you and for as long as we have been together; you are the last person I want to hurt; so just bare with me." Ethan blurted out.

Okay Ethan, what is it? Just get it out. Ava said in her sweetest voice.

Ava started to believe that this was not about her birthday and could tell that it was bad. She could feel her face get hotter by the moment.

I have failed you as a man. I ran into an old high school girlfriend of mine and that is where I have been for the last few days. I have been with her and I have decided that I am going to stay with her. Ethan slowly and carefully explained.

Ethan knew that Ava would take it hard; he knew she loved him. But he had to make himself happy and could not continue leading Ava along. He was ready
