Grace had never heard of Irish dancing, not until she went on holiday to visit her family in Ireland. What she discovered opened up a treasure chest of memories and a life she never knew about. A life that she wanted to experience for herself and one that would change her forever.
The Reel is a fictional story, chapter book aimed at girls aged five to nine. It tells the tale of a young girl called Grace who has recently lost her mother to cancer and is looking for something to make her smile again. She didn't realise, until a family holiday to Ireland, that her mother was an Irish dancer and this leads Grace to discover a world she never knew about and a world she is destined to be a part of.
The Reel is a new novel about Irish dancing aimed at girls new to or already doing Irish dancing.

    Grace stared at the framed photographs dotted along the wall. She hadn’t been tall enough to see them last time but just recently she had ‘shot up’, so everyone kept telling her.

    One photograph caught her attention. It was of a young girl wearing a simple dress and strange looking ballet pumps. She couldn’t tell what colour the dress was as the photograph was an old black and white one. The girl was holding a trophy and beaming proudly. ‘She looks happy,’ thought Grace to herself. ‘I wonder who she is?’

    Is red lemonade okay? shouted her aunt from the kitchen.

    Yes, please, Grace shouted back. She loved red lemonade and you could only get it in Ireland. Back home in London, lemonade was white.

    Grace pushed the door of the kitchen open and sat down at a table, next to an assortment of chocolate biscuits spread out on a plate.

    I thought you might be a little hungry after your journey, said Aunty Mary pointing to the biscuits.

    Grace happily obliged. They had set off really early that morning and she hadn’t felt like eating breakfast. First there was the flight from London to Dublin and then another long trek across
