I first felt drawn to write children's books at the age of seventeen. I loved English class all through school, even the homework, and enjoyed getting good grades. In high school; I especially enjoyed the assignment: "Make your own picture book."Later, as a young mother of three, my own children became a source of great inspiration. Over the years, after writes, rewrites, multiple polishings, and a tall stack of rejection letters, with my children fully grown; I'm finally able to refer to myself as an author!I have quite an extensive portfolio at this point which includes: over twenty children's stories, spanning all the age ranges, romantic and Christian poetry, short stories for ages sixteen to adult and non-fiction articles, mainly Christian.

    NEIGHBORHOOD PARADE

Meagan woke with an instant feeling of fright. Where’s my flute? She muttered, as she pushed her covers back. 'I hope I didn’t leave it in music class. I wanted to practice that new song this weekend!' she screamed in her head, so as not to wake up the whole house. Meagan jumped to her feet. She ran to her book bag and checked the floor near it. Oh….good, she said; taking a deep breath. She picked up her case and put it on her bed; quickly retrieving her flute, like it was in need of her touch. She pressed it to her chest and smiled. She practiced most of the morning until her mouth was tired and even a little sore. She went down to the kitchen after that to retrieve something good from the refrigerator. Morning Sidney, she said to her sister, when she entered the kitchen; stretching and yawning.

I don’t know how you can be so cheerful so early in the morning, replied Sidney; waiting for her turn to check out what looked good in the fridge. Then she flashed Meagan a confused look, as she scratched her sides one at a time.

Well it’s going to be a beautiful Saturday. The birds are already awake and singing outside my bedroom window. Also, I’m excited about this new song we’re learning in music class, Meagan replied.

Oh, Sidney replied, as she put her head into the fridge. "Kid sisters are so cute sometimes," she mumbled, as she pulled out a carton of eggs.

After Meagan devoured a couple of strawberry pop tarts, she started running toward the stairs. ‘My mouth is feeling normal again, so I’ll go back to working on that new song,’ she thought. That was pretty much the way the rest of Meagan’s school year went; practicing her flute every night after dinner and most of the weekend.

When summer came; Meagan was starting to long for something special to happen in the neighborhood. She called her friend Tara from music class, who lived next door: I can’t believe the school year is over already! she remarked.

Yeah, it did go fast. What are you gonna do this summer? Tara asked.

Something really cool, I hope…..but I have no idea yet.

"Are you still playing with your flute?’

Yeah, I’m so glad my dad bought me mine. I would miss it too much if I couldn’t play it all summer, Meagan replied.

Yeah, same here...... I wouldn’t want to be without my guitar either!

Well since we don’t have to give back our instruments......I think I just got an idea! Meagan exclaimed. "Why don’t we try to have a neighborhood parade? All us kids will play our instruments and the ones who don’t have one can bang pots
