    I Justice - B.A. Savage

    Chapter 1

Lieutenant Vic Morgan is my friend. I have known him for over 20 years. He and I were military police officers in the Marines Corps and joined Central City’s police department after discharge. Ten years later, I become a Private Detective, and Vic promoted to lieutenant. Morgan an honest cop and wasn’t the type to call a gumshoe for help. When I received a call early this morning asking me to meet him at Bill’s Place, I didn’t know what to expect.

I pulled my Jeep into the parking lot and parked next to Vic’s car. I looked up as I heard a whooshing sound in the wind. It was getting windier. I walked to the diner, and Vic is sitting near the back facing the door.

Hey, Vic. How's life treating you? I smiled.

I received a small package this morning, He said handing me a picture of him and a girl lying nude in bed. And this came with it.

He gives me a hand-written note.

Stay away from McAdams or your wife gets a copy of this picture. I read adding. I don’t see what the problem is.

What are you talking about? he asked.

You should show, Kate the picture before he does and explains it to her.

Randall it isn't that simple. If Kate sees this picture, she’ll explode.

So what? You got caught with a beautiful woman. You are not the first. Remember, I catch cheating spouse for a living.

Then you believe I did this?

I trust what I see, pal, I said, pointing to the photo.

She’ll believe it too, but it is true, Randall. I was set-up.

He stands up and walks away.

    Chapter 2

Vic, sit down. Let’s have a hot cup of coffee and talk. Oh, miss, I said, calling for the waitresses.

    Yes?

You want anything to eat Vic?

    No, I find, thank you.

Could you give me two large cups of coffee?

I followed the waitresses swaying hips into the kitchen turned to Vic and asked. How did you get yourself into this mess?

    Do you know Jim McAdams?

    He's a pimp, isn't he?

    Yes, that’s him.

He’s a bookie too. I lost my shirt a couple of times dealing with him. What does he have to do with this?

We have been after him for years. Every time we think we have him; he finds a way out."

Yes, he has a bad reputation.

That reputation got to Central City's Cheif of Police. We had a special meeting with the Mayor, and word came from the top. Take him down, no excuses, and I am in command of the investigation.

Then you run out to nail his ass, I say.

And I found a way to get to him, Tyler Moore. Do you know him?

    Yeah, I recognize him.

He’s the weak link in the operation. I felt if I worked on him hard enough; he’ll crack.

Who’s the girl in the picture?

Her name is Betty; she’s Tyler’s sister.

Then, how did you end up in the sack with her?

Yesterday afternoon, I received a call from Tyler He said he needed to see me right away.

    What did he want?

He was upset about the way McAdams treating his sister. He set up a meeting with me at a little place in Versailles.

    What did he say?

He was frightened. He kept talking about McAdams operation. However, the information he gave wasn't anything we didn’t already know. I think he called to get me there and drug me.

Why, didn’t you call for backup, Vic?

As big as McAdams’s operation is, you don’t know who he had in his pocket.

You don’t trust your people, Vic.

The person I trust right now is you.

Did he get a chance to drug you?

Well, it was getting late, and I stepped away from the table to call Kate.

Did you tell her what you were doing?

No, I just said it was police business. When I get back, Tyler ordered coffee. About ten minutes later, everything goes black.

"Do you recall what happen after that?

I woke up at 4 am, in the middle of nowhere. My throat was dry, and my head was killing me.

    What did you do next?

    I drove home.

Vic I still think you should tell Kate.

Well, she’ll say she understands, but I know she wouldn’t trust me.

    You messed around before?

Yes, with a girl in the department.

Did you tell her about it?

I didn't, but someone else told her everything. That evening she asked me, and I told her the truth. It had taken almost a year before she forgives me, and I can’t put her through this crap again.

I’m sorry, but I still think you should tell her about it. And I think you should tell your Captain.

"Well, perhaps you’re correct. However, I don’t want to tell the
