MUSIC IS EAR CANDY

A wedding is a performance—words and actions in atmosphere. Atmosphere is a function of physical location and enriching sound. Thus the intense interest couples have in the eye candy of stimulating venues. After all, the wedding must be held somewhere adequate to the number of guests, and it should be pleasing to them, provide for their comfort and be complimentary to your wedding. The felt need for this eye candy is self-evident because it is tangible and attracts embellishment with things--chairs, ribbons, drapery, lighting, floral displays…. Ear candy, though contributing no less, is less in your face. The ear candy of pleasing sound and inspiring music can fill the air of a venue with anticipation that something important is about to happen, and emotion to match the meaning of the event. This can perhaps provide more value to your wedding as it breathes richness into the space, even for less than perfect venues. Yet, because less tangible, sound and music often do not command the same attention from wedding couples as does their search for the perfect location and décor. I personally find it disappointing to enter sumptuous spaces that, due to silence that is deafening or music that inappropriate, feel hollow and uninviting rather that warm and welcoming. Even elegant locations may disappoint if the atmosphere is not conditioned to the meaning of the occasion by appropriate sound enhancement. Here is where the music of love fits in, as well as security that the sound will be pleasing, adequate and appropriate to the occasion. So, music and sound prove to be essential in providing effective performance of a wedding ceremony that communicates all the wonder of its meaning and emotion. This is not a time
