About this ebook

The Front of a Book deals with the idea that our outer image and personality, communicated with the rest of the world, is just that - an outer image. Behind the facade, behind the physical human being, is the soul. This is the true being - the “ghost in the machine”. Few truly understand it and can skilfully manage and navigate life to bring out the best of it. Here is a book that helps you identify the essence of your being - your soul purpose - and provides suggestions and tips to maintain or move you towards a centred, balanced life. Tarot, Numerology and Kabbalah are suggested keys to guide you to understanding and self-help. Like my other two main books, “A New Way to see things (Theory & Practice of Numerology)” and “TheTarot - Self Analysis & Counselling”, there is a great deal packed into a compact volume. It is engrossing reading and carries you through the depths to the heights. A full script of the Sepher Yetzirah (The Book of Formation) is provided in the appendix.

About Mark CarterBirth date - 14 March 1956.I grew up in a family that might be described as troubled. Fortunately I am a great believer in that everything is connected and there is a reason for everything. Acknowledging the connections and seeking to understand the reasons and deriving the positive from them has brought me to where you find me today.I worked as a police officer from 1975 to 1993 - stress break-down and depression are wonderful teachers. Rising from the ashes I rebuilt myself - studied at university - Bachelor degree in Info Tech - that I never have worked at - returned to work as a Business Analyst (the degree helped a bit).In between I studied some courses on Counseling to support my habit of getting involved in helping people in this way. Today I am focusing more on my home life than my work life. More and more as my life has progressed I have returned to the reading and study that fills my life with dreams - Numerology - Tarot - Sacredness - Counseling - Psychology. My life and work has all been about preparing me for this. My god is in Nature and my peace and happiness is found on my 300 acre (120 hectare) property with my wife in our rammed earth home located on the Granite Belt - just outside the town of Stanthorpe in Queensland - Australia.

The front of a book - the start of a world,

The beginning of thought from deep in a girl,

What is to be said will be written in time,

The present now a moment behind,

The future coming - a moment ahead

Is now until then and then is dead.

Your life is but time - don’t let it slip by,

    It won’t come again - it’s simply good-bye,

Hear what I say - relate to what’s said,

But once it is written it’s past like the dead.

The end of a book - the death of a world,

The end of thought from deep in a girl,

What has been said was written in time,

The present then - a lifetime behind,

The future coming - still is ahead,

It lives forever - the past is dead.

I wrote this poem some time around 1972, I was sixteen at the time. Now, 43 years later, it leaves me wondering how far my journey has travelled. Here I am still thinking and writing about life and death and the nature of the soul. I’d like to think I have learned a lot more than I knew back then but it makes me think of the song by Bob Dylan called My Back Pages and the line I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.

They say don’t judge a book by its cover. How true this is. The front of a book has so much hidden in behind and the only way to know it is to read it. So it goes for you and your soul. Read and understand the story behind the front cover.

    Introduction

I have always wondered what causes someone to be involved in these sorts of things. What caused people like Freud and Jung to think so deeply about their psychology. Brilliant people with powerful minds, but something had to cause the mind to apply itself in so much depth down the paths that they explored. After reading their biographies I came to understand that they had such personal complexity in their early life that most likely they were merely trying to understand and heal their own issues and make sense of their own life.

To make sense of my life I came to understand that there is a reason that I have been through the life experiences that I have been invested with. This writing and getting it out there to the general public is part of that reason. My personal journey, the study and research, the personal search for answers provides insights that may be of great help to many people, not just those with an interest in Numerology. The subject matter of Numerology, Tarot and Kabbalah may be the key that has unlocked this knowledge and understanding for me, but it may also restrict the readership to a specific group of the community with an interest in only that particular subject area. My challenge is to expand that readership beyond the limitation of those boundaries. There is something here for everybody. The self help and life improvement aspect of this book is of value to every soul on the planet and readership should not be limited only to those with a special interest in the esoteric studies. Having said this, it is my hope that once I have engaged you then I have also sparked an interest into the further study of the esoteric arts. This is also something in which every soul may derive a benefit. All together it is about knowing and understanding yourself. Any time taken to know and understand yourself is worthwhile, even if you learn what you are not.

Although part of my subject matter is Numerology, in this book I am not going to overwhelm you with numerous numbers that dissect and explain the many facets of your personality. In terms of Numerology I will be dealing with the number that identifies your path in life. This number presents the key theme that runs as a thread through your life and your essential being and is the reason that you have incarnated into this life.

I have created this book in three parts. If you have no interest at all in Numerology, that is fine, go directly to Part 1: What are you? - Understanding you as a Soul. This section is for general readership and is about learning to understand the nature of your soul, the relationship between your physical-you and your soul-you. There are some hints on how to manage change to bring about harmonious integration of your separate selves. This part of the book may be valuable for all readers who wish to improve the quality of their life. If you are struggling in life with any personal issues to do with managing change, struggling with depression, then I'd like to think I can help you.

If you want to know some introductory Numerology such as your Life Path number and the Tarot card that represents who you are, or maybe you want an insight into a friend, then read Part 2: Who are you? Calculating & analysing your Life Path. The first section of Part 2 gets straight to the point and does not get into the deeper aspects of Numerology. It is about calculating your Life Path number. This is followed by a section on the analysis of your life based on your birth date and your Life Path number and your Personal Year numbers. As you read through Part 1 it may help the context if you have a knowing, in the back of your mind, what your personal path is and how this may all apply directly to you through your number, but it doesn’t really matter. Each to their own.

So, what else makes this self-help book different and more valuable than any others? The answer is in Part 3 of this book. As simply as reasonably possible I introduce you further to the theme of your Life Path. This theme provides the means of understanding the purpose for which you incarnated into this life. This is the edge that this book has over the many other books that you can read and still not know who or what your reason for existence on this planet is about. Through understanding the themes you can gain a deeper appreciation of who you are, your reason for existence, and improve the quality of your life experience.

Also Part 3 may be interpretted as an explanation as to why I do my Numerology the way I do. It is completely different from any other book you will find and I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't for the reason that I have complete belief and faith in the accuracy of my process. To understand yourself, it is important to understand the system into which you have incarnated. It is important to calculate your number correctly and also to understand why it is calculated that way. It is like in the beautiful poem Desiderata - You are a child of the universe. No less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. You have a right to understand the process and the rationale and then make your own choices.

This is a journey on which you are travelling and this book may open your eyes and your mind to better living and enjoyment of your journey. I wish you luck on your journey and offer my support and guidance.

Part 1: What are you? - Understanding you as a Soul

What I would like to achieve now, in this part of the book, is an appreciation of the Soul's situation. Coming from a state of being in the inter-life where time is nothing and communication is as simple as a thought, souls have a lot to endure and overcome from the moment of incarnation into a new physical being. Having an appreciation of this may help you to embrace your responsibility in managing these dual aspects of yourself - the physical entity and the soul entity.

    Inter-Life

There are those with a belief that does not recognise the existence of a soul. There is also some confusion whether a soul and a spirit are the same thing. Without getting caught up in too much technicality, perhaps we can all agree that there is a life spark - an energy that dwells within the body.

I was a police officer for 18 years and in that time I attended more than enough Post Mortem examinations and had enough interaction with death to support my belief and form the personal opinion that when death occurs the person, the energy that was that person, is no longer there. When death occurs, that life spark is gone.

It is my belief that your soul, the spark that dwells within you, comes from some other place. This place is what I call the inter-life. This is where the soul usually resides before life and after life or, to put it another way, in between lives. Inter-life is a good term because it infers that there is an existence in between lives. So it also infers that we live more than one life. This is better than calling it the afterlife, as if suggesting that this other existence of the soul only occurs on one occasion, after your body has died. This is the christian myth that has been foisted upon the general masses.

The study of Kabbalah comes from the Jewish teachings and may even be considered to be the teaching behind the Jewish beliefs. Kabbalah embraces a belief in Reincarnation so this also tells you something about Judaism. Progressing this line of thought further, it must be remembered that the person known as Jesus Christ was a Jew and a student and even a Rabbi, a teacher within the Jewish faith. In its beginnings the Christian faith, built upon the Jewish character of Jesus, carried forward the belief in reincarnation. Only after several hundred years at one of their council gatherings did the Universal church decide to amend their beliefs and have any references to reincarnation removed from their texts and teachings. They chose to edit history.

Getting back to the discussion of the inter-life, another way of looking at it is that from the place of the inter-life the soul goes on a field trip, like you may do at school or college, as part of your studies. After the field trip, you return to the classroom, where you consider and reflect upon what occurred on your field trip. As part of the debrief, as part of the valuable quality known as hind-sight, you may consider what things you may have done differently. What went well? What did not go well? What were the learnings? In the inter-life, the soul resides in a situation of unbounded, limitless knowing, feeling, being... The opportunity for contemplation, reflection and future perception and planning is endlessly pristine. There is a lot that goes into preparation for a future incarnation. In
