Introduction

I created the The Life By Soul™ System over the course of my 25 years studying and practicing Western astrology and Latin Numerology. My first numerology teacher made a few references to astrology in explaining the characteristics of some of the numbers, and those casual references inspired me to begin my astrology studies. I suppose I was inadvertently encouraged to blend the two practices from the start…or at least that’s how it happened in my brain.

The more I practiced astrology and numerology, the more it made sense to me to blend the two practices as completely as possible. I started out just blending the sun signs and life path numbers, but soon after, I realized that other numerological calculations could also be used in tandem with certain bodies and points in astrology charts. It took quite a bit of trial and error over the last 20+ years developing the The Life By Soul™ System to become what it is now, and the system is now confidently solid, tried, and true.

The purpose of The Life By Soul™ System is to assist you in expanding your awareness of all that you are capable of, stepping more fully into the conscious choosing and creation of your life, and experiencing more consistent alignment with your most direct path to the fulfillment and happiness of living into your highest potential.

I consider your Life By Soul™ astrology-numerology chart to be a unique blueprint of your soul. This blueprint reveals much of the undeniable and incorruptible truth of who you are as a person. From the foundation this truth provides, through your life experiences and your interpretations of them, and through the choices you make as result of that foundation and those interpretations, you shape the course of your life. Your choices often determine if you take the direct path or the scenic route to the fulfillment of your life purpose.

Many of your life choices may be influenced by your family upbringing, schooling, relationships from infancy into adulthood, everyday life experiences which are mundane and routine, and exceptional life experiences which are unusual and significant. You may not be living fully (or you may not feel like you are living fully) into your soul’s design and purpose because of choices you made at various points in your life as a result of experiences during those impressionable times. Those moments of impression need not be major or significant—just moments in which you made choices to think or believe things or to do things that altered the course of your life in that area or aspect.

Yet once you have access to the knowledge of your True self that comes through your astrological and numerological charts, you can begin living your life by the design revealed by your blueprint. The way you see yourself and your life now could be altered significantly after exploring yourself through The Life By Soul™ System, which may change your perception of yourself and your life, and possibly even change the direction of your life’s journey.

Though astrology and numerology will reveal much about who you truly are and what is really happening in the present moment, some challenging work may still be required on your part to move yourself forward on a path in alignment with your soul’s design. Any astrology-numerology chart interpretation or reading is seldom a quick fix or a magic pill or a simple answer to the equation of your life. It can be a very useful tool in making the answer-finding process easier and smoother, but only if you are willing to do the work and make the choices that will allow its power be revealed in your life.

In working with The Life By Soul™ System, you have an opportunity to move through the depths of your darkness into the radiance of your Light. Though this first book is a rather light-hearted introduction to the system, the overall journey is not an exploration for the faint of heart. You’ve got to be willing and ready to face and deal with your stuff. After all, receiving and having the knowledge is one thing—taking action with or upon that knowledge is up to you. Embracing yourself and embracing your journey requires you to face your life choices and take responsibility for making them. It also challenges you to take responsibility for taking on new perspectives, making new choices, and taking new or different actions that align you with the life you are called to live and intend to create for yourself.

It is my intention that through Life By Soul™ you may expand your awareness of all that you are capable of, stepping more fully into the conscious choosing and creation of your life. The Life By Soul™ System – Blending Astrology and Numerology Into One

Astrology can be very detailed and extremely complicated. There are so many components—signs, planets, bodies, points, aspects, angles, houses, etc. For someone who is new to the practice, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. For people who have practiced astrology for a long time, it’s still (occasionally) overwhelming for us, too.

Yet all of those complex details are what make astrology invaluable in helping you understand how you are who you are. It helps you understand rather specifically who you are at the core of your being, what you need to feel emotionally nurtured and cared for, how you think and speak, how you take action, how you approach relationships, etc.

Numerology can also be somewhat complicated; using your birthdate, the various versions of your name, and other details to help you understand how you are inclined to express yourself. If numbers and math are not your strong suits, the calculations may be a bit intimidating.

Yet numerology is not as difficult as you may think, and all of the numbers that result from those calculations, when combined with the astrological components, help you recognize which specific characteristics of the astrological signs will tend to come to the surface and how you’re inclined to express them.

Numerology and astrology can also assist in the understanding of where you are in the bigger picture of your life’s journey and how you can use the energies present in your life to your highest advantage.

I blended the two practices because I felt like they completed each other. Some would argue that each science is complete in its own right . . . and they are. Yet I found that interpreting the two together through The Life By Soul™ System reveals a more focused and nuanced blueprint of an individual’s unique soul design – a more complete portrait of a person’s true self emerges.

There are also many different focal points from which astrologers and numerologists can approach their practice. I choose to practice from a personal development point of view. Therefore, I’m always looking at how I can deliver the most important information with a simple clarity that makes it easier for my clients to understand themselves and the motives behind their life choices and circumstances. This self-understanding often leads to my clients accepting and embracing themselves fully and possibly transforming old belief or behavior patterns which have held them back in certain areas of their lives.

Unless they are also astrologers or numerologists themselves, I’ve learned that the majority of my clients don’t care much about the calculations, aspects, or angles—they don’t even want or need me to prove to them that I know what I’m talking about with a bunch of technical jargon. They only care about how those details apply to them. All they want is for me to tell them what the numbers and signs and lines and circles all mean to them in practical, everyday terms. They want the information that helps them make sense of themselves and their lives, and that’s what I strive to provide.

That is why I developed The Life By Soul™ System — I wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to learn about and understand themselves as unique individuals. However, making it simple doesn’t make it easy. To that point, when you choose to step into exploring yourself through The Life By Soul™ System, there are some things you need to know.

This astrology and numerology stuff is serious fun. Seriously.

Astrology and numerology can be fun. They can also be serious. My goal through The Life By Soul™ System is to let you know that they are both.

I do my best to take a casual, light-hearted approach to these practices which helps you step into greater self-awareness and make powerful life changes in an amusing and entertaining way. To that point, it’s one thing to read your combinations and say, Oh, that’s so like me! and then to giggle and go about your day. It’s another thing to read your combinations and say, Wow. How does this make a difference in my life?

For those of you who want to keep it fun and light, and simply be able to look up the base combinations for yourself, your family, and your friends, this book—Book One—is for you.

However, there may be those of you who take this astrology-numerology subject matter a bit (or a lot) more seriously. You may value its ability to assist in self-help and personal development processes. For you, reading these combinations may give you valuable insights into yourself and others which help you move forward and upward in your life’s journey.

For those of you who are taking a serious interest in and actually want to learn astrology and numerology, or who want to learn The Life By Soul™ System to enhance what you may already be doing in your own astrology and/or numerology practice, this is the first in a planned series of six (or more) books intended to increase in complexity as the series continues, teaching you the complete Life By Soul™ System.

Everyone is one of a kind.

As you learn more about The Life By Soul™ System, you will also learn that there really and truly is no one else like you. No one. There was no one else like you before, is no one like you now, and will not be anyone like you again.

Even twins will have things that make them different—it doesn’t matter how similar their astrology may be because the numerology will differentiate their characteristics.

Each one of us has a unique and special design and a one-of-a-kind role in humanity and in this stage of history. Even if you think you’re nothing special, you are special just by being alive on this planet. I know that may seem a bit far-fetched to some of you, but that really is the case.

Therefore, it is important for you to be all of who you are to the best of your ability right now.

The Life By Soul™ System is intended to reveal and celebrate your individual uniqueness. This is about learning, knowing, and loving yourself and who you get to be in this world, not by the world’s standards, but by the Universe’s standards and/or your own personal standards. The Life By Soul™ System is intended to move each and all of us beyond what the world says we should be in order to help us become who we actually are.

You always have free will.

We each have choices to make about ourselves and our lives. The Life By Soul™ System will not make these choices for you. Astrology and numerology will not make these choices for you.

The Life By Soul™ System and astrology and numerology in general are tools to assist you in knowing and understanding yourself more fully. They will give you insights and guidance. They will give you windows of opportunity and let you know how you can use your insights and guidance to make the most of those opportunities when they arise.

In the application of free will, we don’t necessarily choose everything that happens to us, but we do choose how we deal with it in the moment, how we respond to it once it’s done, and how we allow it to affect us from now on.

You make these choices for yourself and your life, and you get to be responsible for them.

You’re personally responsible…for you.

There is a great deal to be said about personal responsibility. If you choose to move through this self-discovery and/or self-acknowledgment process in earnest, you get to own up to both who you are and who you aren’t.

You get to admit where you are right and where you are wrong. You get to admit where you are being a hypocrite and where you are honoring your word. You get to admit where you are projecting your faults, actions, blame, or shame onto others. You also get to admit to your successes and your unique talents and abilities.

In the process of admitting to the challenging stuff, you get to admit to the good stuff, too. You also get to empower yourself to choose differently for yourself and your life.

Not everyone will be open to this process or be willing to be responsible for who they are being through it. That’s okay. The Life By Soul™ System is available to everybody . . . but not everybody will embrace it easily.

Just because it’s simple doesn’t make it easy.

This isn’t fortune telling.

The Life By Soul™ System is about developing self-awareness and personal growth and development. It’s not about predicting your future, as you have free will and personal responsibility for your choices made under free will.

Therefore, if you are really serious about knowing yourself and making changes to your life, this is absolutely for you.

However, if you’re trying to figure out how to make yourself someone you’re not or to make someone else to be who you want them to be, this is absolutely not for you.

This isn’t a horoscope or a specific predictive tool. It’s not meant to tell you about your future in a definitive context. The Life By Soul™ System will not tell you exactly when you’re going to be married or if you’re going to get that big job promotion. It may reveal the best windows of opportunity for those types of life events, but there are also steps you get to take and work you get to do on yourself and for yourself in order to maximize the potential for those opportunities to be fulfilled.

If you’re looking for a quick fix or that magic something that’s going to make that (wo)man fall in love with you or something that will win you that lottery jackpot just by looking it up in a book or by getting a 60-minute reading, sorry—this isn’t it. Astrology and numerology are not meant to serve those purposes.

Personal growth and maximizing your potential is actually a big project and a lifelong journey . . . and rarely are your rewards simply handed over to you. You’ll have some work to do, and you’ll need to be willing do it to get the results that align with your chosen expression of your unique design. The quality of your efforts determines how and how quickly your rewards come.

Yet the effort is well worth the rewards, and that is why I’ve developed The Life By Soul™ System. I want to teach and encourage as many of us as are willing to do the work and reap the rewards that each of us has a special role and purpose in being on this Earth in the time we are on it.

I believe that when each and every one of us accepts, embraces, and expresses the truth of who we are as individuals as revealed to us in our unique soul designs, we are able to find peace within ourselves. When we find that, we are able to find peace with others. And when we can find peace with others, we can manifest peace in the world and with the Universe.

That is what The Life By Soul™ System is designed to do—to assist each of us in finding and making peace with ourselves within so we may create and manifest peace all around.

Calculating Your Life By Soul™ Base Combination

Part One - Astrology – What’s Your (Sun) Sign?

Western Astrology Basics

The sun signs are the foundation of Western Astrology, and are what most people are familiar with when they hear the word astrology. Most publications and conversations about astrology are based primarily upon sun signs, since they are determined very simply by one’s day of birth, and therefore, are easiest to figure out.

The following list will help you determine your astrological sun sign in Western Astrology. The dates are approximate, not exact, as they vary slightly from year to year. If your birthdate is very close to the beginning or end of one of the sign ranges, you may want to use an online chart drafting program or have your chart drafted by a professional to see which day the sun changed sign on your year of birth.

Now that we have the astrology part covered, let’s move into the numerology. It’s a bit more complicated as there is math involved.

Part Two - Numerology – Get Your (Life Path) Number!

Latin Numerology Basics

The most important calculation you’ll need to do in Latin Numerology is the life path number. This is a number derived by adding all of the digits of your birthdate to attain a single number.

Through calculation method #1, you will take all of the individual digits of your birth date and add them together. Once you have the sum of the digits, if the total is a double-digit number (which it usually is), you will either add the two digits together to reduce it to a single-digit number or leave it as what numerologists call a master number (i.e. – 11, 22, 33, etc… See page 52 for more details).

Examples of Calculation Method #1:

12 December 1972

1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 25

2 + 5 = 7

Life Path Number

11 November 1984

1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 26

2 + 6 = 8

Life Path Number

Through calculation method #2, you will take each component of the birth date and reduce it as you go. If one of your birth date components starts as a master number (an 11 or 22), DO NOT REDUCE IT! However, if one of your starting components is a double-digit number that is not a master number, or if through reduction you get another double-digit number that is not a master number, continue to reduce it until it is either a master number or a single-digit number.

Once you have all three of the birth date components fully reduced, you will add those reduced numbers together. If the sum of the reduced numbers is also a double-digit number, you will reduce it until it is either a master number or a single-digit number.

Examples of Calculation Method #2:

12 December 1972

Day: 12 = 1 + 2 = 3 Month: 12 = 1 + 2 = 3 Year: 1972 = 1 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 19; 1 + 9 = 10; 1 + 0 = 1

Day 3 + Month 3 + Year 1 (3+3+1) = 7

7 Life Path Number

11 November 1984

Day: 11 Month: 11 Year: 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 22

Day 11 + Month 11 + Year 22 (11+11+22) = 44

44 Life Path Number

The reason it is important to calculate your birthdate BOTH ways is because you want to make sure that if a master number comes up in the calculations, you don’t miss it. If you do get a master number as a final result of one of your calculation processes, you want to use it as the main life path number moving forward.

If a master number comes up in both calculation methods, it is a true master number. If it only comes up in one method, it has a greater likelihood of toggling between its mastery and its reduced form. You’ll learn more about master number reduction as you read about the numbers in the Numeric Energies section.

Part Three - Blending Your Astrology & Numerology to Determine Your Base Combination in The Life by Soul™ System

Using the same birth date examples as in the Astrology and Numerology Basics sections, here are two examples of how to combine the sun sign and the life path Number to determine your Life by Soul™ System base combination.

Example #1:

12 December 1972

Astrology: 12/12/1972 = Sagittarius sun sign

Numerology: Result from Calculation method #1 = 7

Result from calculation method #2 = 7

Life Path Number = 7

Astrology Sun Sign Sagittarius + Numerology Life Path 7 = Sagittarius 7 base combination

This person is identified as having a Sagittarius 7 base combination in The Life by Soul™ System.

Example #2:

11 November 1984

Astrology: 11/11/1984 = Scorpio sun sign

Numerology: Result from Calculation method #1 = 8

Result from calculation method #2 = 44

Because we always seek the master numbers in calculation, we favor the master number in this case and choose it as the life path number.

Life Path Number = 44

Astrology Sun Sign Scorpio + Numerology Life Path 44 = Scorpio 44 base combination

This person is identified as having a Scorpio 44 base combination in The Life by Soul™ System.

Through the two previous examples, you now understand the first step in how astrology and numerology are combined to create combinations in The Life by Soul™ System. The sun sign and life path are merged to provide you with your base combination energy, which is the primary and dominant identification of your being in The Life by Soul™ System.

Breaking Down the Details – The Astrological Signs and the Numeric Energies

Though the purpose of this book is to describe the base combinations of The Life by Soul™ System, the characteristics of the signs and numbers are important to know in a general sense and on their own merits. The next two sections separately describe the qualities of the astrological signs and the numeric energies.

The next two sections will cover the 12 Western Astrology signs and what each represents, and the 18 Latin Numerology numbers (9 core and 9 master) and what each represents.

The Astrological Signs

It starts with me. This is how I see myself. This is where I take initiative in my life.

The soul begins its journey in Aries. Aries is the ultimate Me, me, me sign, as it puts itself and its inspired urges first and foremost. Aries represents the ego as leader, and it can provide you with great insight into your individual or personal motives.

Aries isn’t one to follow others. This is leadership energy. If its leadership spirit isn’t on display from the outset, don’t worry—you can be sure it will make itself known at some point. Aries’ fire cannot and will not be contained for long, if you can contain it in the first place.

Action is the word that best encompasses Aries’ energy, and actions born of Aries tend to be impulsive, assertive, sometimes aggressive, and occasionally even violent in nature. This is because Aries will do whatever it needs to do in order to assert itself and its will. Its sole agenda is to move itself and its interests forward.

This is not to say that Aries energy is intentionally selfish. It is to say that Aries can be so consumed with initiating its journey in this lifetime and being in action to progress it that it often overlooks the fact that others are impacted by its impulsiveness as it tries to identify itself and its place in the world. For this reason, Aries represents the soul’s initiation of ego.

Even when Aries does things for others, it tends to do them on its terms—when it wants to, how it wants to, and based upon its own ability to act in the moment. Everyone else’s needs and desires come second to Aries’ urges to take action and put itself in the lead. However, this is a good thing, as while some people may be upset and offended by Aries’ selfishness, others may learn either through or from Aries natives how to put themselves first and how to stand up for themselves and their interests.

By embracing the Aries energy within you and around you in others, you may find yourself learning to become more assertive, more impulsive, and more willing to take initiative to become the leader of your own life.

Look at the sign your Mars is in, which of your chart’s astrological bodies and points are occupied in the sign of Aries, and the position of the sign of Aries in your chart for clues to what inspires and motivates you to take those first steps to action in the matters of your life. Whether you are self-motivated or whether the actions or words of others get you moving, Aries in your chart reveals what gets you moving—your motivation.

Planets in Aries and where Aries falls in your individual chart reveal what inspires and motivates you to act in your own best interests.

Opposing Libra, Aries is the self you bring into your relationships, and is the self you are often called to look to or look at when you examine your role in those relationships. (In other words, this is the you that the other person is dealing with and talking about.)

This is what I need to survive and be comfortable (food, shelter, sex). This is what sustains me. These are the lifestyle resources and values that make me feel comfortable, safe, and secure.

Once it has established its identity with Aries, the ego enters Taurus to begin establishing its personal lifestyle. It tends to focus on the acquisition of physical, material, and/or financial resources (a.k.a. survival needs). Certain quality standards are impressed upon it early in its formative years, and though these standards can be changed, Taurus is hard-pressed to change them. This is why Taurus natives have a reputation for being so darn stubborn.

Yet Taurus’ rather fixed stance is not as much about being stubborn for stubbornness’ sake as it is about its unwillingness to give up its comfort zone and its justifications for maintaining that zone once it has been defined and secured. Taurus as the sign of lifestyle resources thus brings up two fascinating questions for each of us: 1) If you don’t have what you need or want, what are you willing to do to get it? 2) Once you have what you need, what are you willing to do to maintain it or increase it?

Once the ego has established the foundation of its lifestyle through Taurus, it moves on to the sign of Gemini. Gemini is often associated with information and communication, and rightfully so.

Though Gemini is usually known as a messenger of information, it is often more a gatherer or collector rather than a disseminator of information—it is a student rather than a teacher. This is not to say that the student can never be the teacher—only that Gemini is usually more interested in gathering information than sharing it. In fact, Gemini tends to say only what it needs to say in order to get what it needs to get. Conversations are pretty much info-seeking opportunities for Gemini natives, which is why Gemini has a reputation for being both curious and duplicitous.

To that point, Gemini is usually very youthful and charismatic, and has quite a way with words. This is because Gemini knows that thoughts and words have creative power, so it doesn’t like to use them without being clear about what it is using them for. Gemini has a quick mind and may have an equally quick mouth, so even though it may seem that Gemini is saying or doing things impulsively, that’s usually not the case at all. Gemini’s just that mentally and intellectually swift.

This is where and how I seek emotional support and/or feel emotionally supported. This is what I need for my emotional needs to be met. This is how I learn to emotionally nurture and care for myself and others.

Once the ego has begun developing its intellectual and communicative skills in Gemini, it moves on to develop its emotional capacities in the sign of Cancer. Cancer is known as the maternal archetype or the Mommy sign of the Zodiac, and it is associated with the emotional development qualities one would expect a (traditional) mother to provide.

Cancer is also the sign of home and family, revealing where one feels most emotionally comfortable or at home and where one tends to become most emotionally invested in others. This sign is often associated with nurturing, caring for, supporting, and protecting others—yet it is really more about where and how one feels most nurtured, cared for, encouraged, supported, and protected by others. The amusing and ironic thing about Cancer is that though it is associated with maternal energy in a chart, it’s not about nurturing others as much as it’s about what motivates us to nurture others.

Our emotional investments are rooted in what makes us individually feel emotionally safe and comfortable, reflecting our individual experiences in receiving motherly support and encouragement. Since how we go about expressing maternal energy toward others is usually based on our own examples, experiences, and expectations of what mother is or should be, we tend to perceive the mother role through the filter of whether or not we what we got what we emotionally needed from our own home and family environments. This makes our expression of maternal energy rather self-centered as it is based upon what we ourselves need and want to feel emotionally cared for and nurtured. We’re often putting our own emotional needs first, and then the emotional needs of the other person or people we are caring for when we are mothering others.
