His wife is busy with the USO and his teenage sister-in-law is the only one who turns up for his good-bye party. Boone and Janey discover being left alone together all afternoon creates another sort of war on the home front. Smoldering fantasies spark to life, pushing their taboo attraction further than they can handle.

Author

Evelyn Ellis

Evelyn Ellis has had a passion for historical romance from an early age. She liked the spicy ones best, but they were never spiced in the right way (or enough) for her taste, so she began writing her own erotica. She particularly enjoys writing erotic short stories and novellas. The shorter format allows for deeper character examination over the course of a very hot erotic story. Her stories are standalone and serial short fiction with themes that explore taboo sexual subjects from Medieval time to the Swinging Sixties, in settings all over the globe.

Chapter One: The War at Home

IT WAS A SCORCHING DAY in August, unbearably hot in West Virginia where my wife, Jemma and me had our little cabin. I was being shipped out the next morning, boarding the army transport in Charleston at 0600 hours and from there we were being shipped overseas to fight the Germans.

I enlisted right after Pearl Harbor, itching to get in the fight. My wife, Jemma got busy with the war effort almost as soon as I signed up. She’s a natural go-getter, always has been even in college. Jemma’s my high school sweetheart; we’ve been married two years, practically newlyweds but it didn’t feel like it because we’ve been together since grade school.

We were getting along fine until her little sister came to live with us the year before and then it was fight, fight, fight. I remember when Janey was a brat with freckles and a smart mouth. She was older now, just turned eighteen, her mouth was still smart but she’d lost the freckles and gained a few things. A figure being just one of those things.

I noticed her. She had a way about her; kind of clumsy, but kind of sexy too. She’d been getting too friendly with the soldiers in town and her ma thought she needed a male influence to keep her on track. She figured I could act like a big brother to Janey and keep an eye out for trouble. She didn’t know the trouble might come from having her youngest daughter sleeping under my roof. The walls in our cabin are thin as paste. And when it’s hot ... it feels like I’m living in a powder keg most times.

Janey had issues with keeping her robe closed when she first got here. She was seventeen and what I would call a full-grown girl at that age. I’m ten years her senior. Jemma is eight. We have maturity and she’s just a kid is what I kept telling myself. Plus, she was my sister-in-law and plus she was underage, so I took plenty of cold showers and worked like a dog for the park service until I was called up.

On my last day, the day in question, the day I’m gonna tell you about, I was lounging around the cabin, too hot to work. I couldn’t even if I wanted to—the park service took me off duty until after the war. I was waiting for Jemma to come home. She was doing some war effort work in town but she said she’d be back to cook me a farewell dinner. It was our last night together. Maybe for all time, but we decided not to think like that, Jemma especially. When she didn’t to think about a thing, she’d get herself a real busy. I was trying to be understanding, but I was lonely.

Just as I sat down with a cold beer, my feet up on the railing, Janey came sidling around the corner. Where you been? I took a swig from the beer bottle and tried not to notice how she was dressed.

Town. What are you doing? Glory, it’s hot.

    Waiting for Jemma.

She ain’t here? Janey hopped up the stair and stuck her head in the cabin as though checking for her sister. Well, hell, you ship out tomorrow! I came home because I thought we were having a party. Barbecue, corn roast and the like ... shoot. Well, I’m gonna celebrate with a cold Coca-Cola. Want one?

    I’m drinking a beer.

I lifted the bottle to my lips and fixed my eyes on the smoky blue mountain range in the distance. Janey was wearing the latest in the silver screen fashions. She got her ideas from those magazines she kept buying. Tight short-shorts, a halter top tied at the naval and high wedge heel sandals. She didn’t paint a
