      Ashley Baker was well-known in her industry for being brilliant, efficient, and ruthless. She closed deals that made her competition weep and was the envy - and the spite - of everyone at this conference.

      Being at the top, Ashley told herself, came with a price. She made money hand-over-fist and she was most effective when everyone was scared of her. Even if it was lonely.

      Wearing one of her many black-on-black suits with stiletto heels, her dark hair cut like a pixie, and sporting glossy lips she walked with purpose through the hotel lobby, sunglasses still on her heart shaped face.

      Checking in, please, she said to the clerk who hadn’t yet looked up at her.

      Welcome to Nashville! How many in your party?

      One.

      The slightly overweight young man with pock-marked skin glanced up and did a double-take. He then adjusted his stance and put on a cocky air, You want a king or two doubles?

      For some reason Ashley couldn’t fathom, he had a bit of a smirk on his face.

      King. The reservation is under Baker Industries. I should be in the penthouse suite. I’m in a hurry.

      The disgusting man gave her a once over that was probably meant to either express sexual interest or be intimidating. It was neither. Your wish is my command, Ms. Baker. My name is Marcus, let me know if I can help you with ... anything. The word ‘anything’ was dripping with insinuation.

      She stared at him stony eyed and flat lipped, still not removing her oversized aviators.

      If you come onto me one more time I will inform your manager and do everything in power to make you miserable, she said without a trace of emotion in her voice. She wanted to nip this in the bud. She bore no illusion that she could get the little shit fired for such a minor infraction, but he didn’t know that and she just wanted to be left alone.

      Yes, m’am, he said, slightly red in the face. Ashley guessed
