Chapter 1: Nicole

Waking up, not knowing where I am for a second, I realize I’m still in Matthew’s suite. In his bed. I ease out a full breath. I’m sore, but it’s a good sore. I feel as if a bunch of tiny men have been gnawing on me all night. I have to get a life because lying around with Matthew, as he pleasures and satisfies me, isn’t the real world.

The real world is changing diapers, taking my son to the doctor when he’s sick, and worrying about his future. The list is endless when you have a baby without his father. 

I sit up because I hear a strange sound. It’s coming from my phone. I haven’t heard my phone ring for two days. Looking around I’m alone in the bed again but this time I’m matured enough to know the score. I have no expectations of Matthew serenading me or bringing me roses. These thoughts are dancing around in my head when I try to stand but I’m weak.

That’s normal when you’ve spent the night with a man like The Hawk. His playful erotic intentions, his soft fingering, constant sucking, and pleasuring me half the night is too intense and too erotic to say no to him. I smile and reach for the phone, Oh shit. It’s Lacy. I almost forgot about her, I mumble. I better face her or I won’t be able to live this down. She will never stop nagging me about deserting her in San Francisco.

Yeah, it’s me, her voice is sarcastic but it changes and it’s filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Girl I had a wonderful time. This guy drove me around San Francisco at night. Shit no. I know better than that. Remember I’m a New Yorker. I’ve more than enjoyed myself. If you hadn’t deserted me, I never would have met Shawn. That driver is cute. You know The Hawks’ driver, she says talking continuously without taking a break.
