    Chapter One: Introduction

Paper Towns by John Green was first published on 16th of October 2008. It is the author’s third young adult novel. It is a coming-of-age novel.

Quentin Q Jacobsen is the protagonist of the novel. He searches his childhood love and neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. Ben, Radar, and Lacey are Quentin’s friends. Having completed their search of missing Margo, they find out more about the real Margo.

The novel was first included in the school reading lists, but it became controversial because several critics pointed to its sexual content. According to the author, he was inspired to write the novel through his own experience and knowledge of ‘paper towns,’ while he was on a road trip through South Dakota.

The book was adapted into a highly successful movie. It was ranked at number five on the New York Times bestseller list for children’s books. The novel won the Edgar Award for best young adult novel in 2009.

It is a novel in three parts. The three different parts are titled The Strings, The Grass, and The Vessel. These three are specific metaphors. The third part of the novel has been divided into subsections. Each section is given to the hour of the characters’ road trip.

The author has repeated the concept of ‘paper towns’ several times. John Green had heard of many paper towns as a former Orlandoan.

When Green was in his junior year of the college, he and his friend came across a paper town called ‘Holen.’

Paper Town is a highly interesting, informative, and thought-provoking story.
