My mom wants to say hello to you.

Katie stared at the phone in Johnathan's hand as if it were a snake about to bite her. All of her instincts screamed, Hell no! while the rest of her knew refusing wasn't an option. Saying no to Sir rarely ended well and using her safeword to avoid a phone call would be ridiculous.

He shook the phone at her and mouthed, 'Take it.'

Hold on, Mom. Let me get her for you.

Katie could feel her blood pressure rising, and the nerves jumbling and jangling under her skin. She truly detested talking to people she didn't know, and this was Sir's mother. This was important. First impressions were everything. She was woefully unprepared.

Pressing the phone into his chest, Johnathan looked confused and slightly annoyed. What's the problem, Babygirl?

This is your Mom, Sir! And I've never met her! You've given me no warning and no time to prepare! hissed Katie.

Sir shook his head, clearly bewildered. She just wants to say hi and wish you a Happy New Year, Babygirl.

The tone in his voice washed over Babygirl - firm, strong, brooking no argument from her. Although the tightness in her stomach refused to fade, she let herself submit to the simple request, knowing her Sir would appreciate the gesture.

Oh? He's never missed a Christmas with you? I had no idea! Wow, mom guilt and she's not even my mom!
