Manolis was born in the small village Kolibari west of Chania on the Greek island of Crete in 1947. At a young age his family moved first to Thessaloniki and then to Athens where he was educated, achieving a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at Panteion Supreme School of Athens. He served in the armed forces for two years, and emigrated to Vancouver in 1973, where he worked in several different jobs over the years.He attended Simon Fraser University for a year, taking English Literature in a non-degree program. He has written three novels, a large number of collections of poetry, which are slowly appearing as published works, various articles and short stories in Greek as well as in English. After working as an iron worker, train labourer, taxi driver, and stock broker, he now lives in White Rock where he spends his time writing, gardening, and traveling.Towards the end of 2006 he founded Libros Libertad, an unorthodox and independent publishing company in Surrey, BC, with the goal of publishing literary books.

    Sins of the Night

    Little sins of the night

    wait for me

    to travel to other nights

    resembling my small

    shivers gathered

    my bigger sins trying

    to find space

    in prayer when

    I beg of forgiveness

    for not embarking

    on the voyage

    Κάθε μέρα γεμίζω και αδειάζω ρούχα

    με σειρά, με ευλάβεια

    αδειάζω και γεμίζω πιάτα και ποτήρια

    προσέχοντας μη καταστραφούν

    στην υψηλή θερμοκρασία

    Στη τελειότητα της προσπάθειας

    καίω τα χέρια μου που γίνονται

    απ’ τη συνήθεια εξαρτήματα

    εξαφάνισης κηλίδων μα

    ξέρω σε τι αντέχω πια

    Το να βρω ισορροπία σε υψηλό ρίσκο

    θερμοκρασίας μου πήρε χρόνια

    Θέλει χρόνο να μάθεις να κάνεις

    το αντίθετο

    που έκανες σ’ όλη σου τη ζωή

    High Temperature

    I fill and empty cloths daily

    coherently

    in reverence

    I fill and empty plates, glasses

    carefully albeit I shall ruin them

    in the high temperature

    In the wholeness of my effort

    I burn my hands that become

    habitual tools

    that erase stains

    yet know what I can endure

    To find my balance in the

    high risk of temperature that

    long ago existed took years to learn

    Truly it takes time to learn

    the opposite of what

    you have been doing all your life

    Όλη η ζωή μου βουνό

    ένα μοναχικό πεύκο

    που περιμένει

    μια πανσέληνο

    να φωτίσει

    των ριζών του

    το φλογερό πάθος

    Fiery Passion

    My life a mountain

    and a lonely pine

    that waits

    for the full moon

    to light

    the fiery passion

    of its roots
