CHAPTER 1

The Past

Chase and I are going to the store. I declared.

Ok, Crystal. Do you need me to take you? Chance asked.

Can you, I asked, Then we don’t have to walk. I would appreciate that.

I'll take you.

Are you sure, I quizzed I'm just going to Stop and Go?

Yea, Crystal, its ok, I’ll take you.

Ok. I let out.

Mommy can you get me some Mike and Ickes please? Chase asked.

Sure sweetie. Do you want something, Chance? I asked so he wouldn’t feel left out.

No baby, I’m good. I stated with relief. No beer tonight because Chance use to be a drinker and then he would act ignorant.

Well, Chase I'm going in the store you stay right here in the car with Chance.

Ok mom Chase said.

Then I leaned over and kissed Chase on his cheek while watching Chance get jealous.

Chance here’s your kiss bae. I’ll be right back. I said with a smile

As I walked into the store all I could do was think about how my two men was my world and no one could ever replace them. So I walked in the store with a great big smile.

I was in the store for all about five minutes. When two guys walked in the store and started shooting. I found a shelf to dip behind so I couldn’t be seen. There was so much ruckus going on in the store. The noise could be heard for blocks. Chance must have heard he ran in like a bat out of hell.

What the fuck is going on! Oh my fucking… Chance screamed out.

When Chance heard the gun fire he ran straight in the store not thinking or planning his moves. Chance was so confused he left Chase in the car. The only thing I could think about was Chase being all alone in the car with no idea of what was happening just a few feet away. At that moment I begin to pray. I knew Chance would come in the store because he always thought he was my hero.

Chance! I yelled. Then the gunman open fire.

No! I screamed as I pierced my own ear drum. I wanted to go out there like super woman but I knew I had get to my son. As Chance fell to the ground I almost fainted. My adrenaline was pumping I felt as if I was going to have an anxiety attack. I tried to get to him but one of the gunman stood over him to make sure he didn’t move. There was a lot of yelling going on.

Give me the money! the robber yelled Give me the money! The robbers shouted to make it seem as if that was the motive of the staged robbery. The Chinese owner replied speaking Chinese gibberish.

I could hear footsteps coming closer to me and I was shaking with fear. It seem as they echoed through the store Clip! Clop! Clip! Clop! I raised my head up and his eyes met mine I completely went into shock and started screaming Agggggggggghhhhhhh

***There is always a means to an end and this was the beginning.

CHAPTER 2

Well Kept

This is my first day upstairs and the view is beautiful on the 16th floor. I usually work in the mail room, but the temp office called me and said there’s an available position upstairs. This position was geared more to my expertise in the office. So, I told them I’ll take it! Today is the day I report to the sixteenth floor to China.

I was so excited because I’ll receive a key card, a badge, and the lunch room code. I felt like I was moving on up. Wow, they even have a code to get in the executive offices this was huge and I’m elated. As the elevator doors open I walk out as if I’m a tourist. Looking around in amazement. After the doors shut I proceeded down a long hall. Gold letters spelling out L-U-S-T with the back ground of dark wood and an etched carving of Devin’s face on the wall. It was beautiful.

I finally reached the door and swiped my new key card and I was in. As I entered the office I scanned the rooms, and then I was met with someone else looking in my face with a side way grin. I shook my head because it was China she use to come to the mail room and gossip about all her bosses info and his girlfriend’s business.

Hello, Girlie, what’s your name? China greeted, acting brand new.

Diamond, I replied to play her game.

Well, Hello Miss Diamond, I am China. She started. I am the owner’s assistant. The lady from the temp agency told me to train you and show you around. Have you did any work like this before?

Well, it’s been a while I think I’m more of a leader than an admin assistant. I answered, still playing along with her game.

Ok, Mr. John thanks, that girl is crazy I don’t understand why she is acting out like this is my first day when I have been here for two weeks already. China is so silly.

That left me stuck but anyways. It’s Friday and we are having open house for new clients and they’re expecting a good turnout. So I made copies of the questionnaires, new files and name tags.
