Twins Royale - Amari A
Chapter 1
There was an unusual chill in the air as Mekhilah walked across the castle grounds to her sister Kiniah's room. They were twins but they didn't look alike because they were fraternal twins. Mekhilah looked more like their mom with her soft brown skin and curly brown hair. Where as Kiniah looked more like their dad with her dark brown skin and black curly hair. They were also complete opposites in personalities. Mekhilah was shy and withdrawn and Kiniah was loud and outgoing but they couldn't be any closer . They were both starting their first day at Mystic High tomorrow and Mekhilah wanted to talk to Kiniah about their first day. She was nervous but was sure that Kiniah would help her feel better about the day. She knocked on Kiniah's door and heard her yell come in from the other side. She entered into the room and saw that Kiniah was lying across the bed with her sketchpads spread out all around her.
So you had another vision?
she asked as she took a seat on the edge of the bed.
No, I just felt like drawing for fun for once,
said Kiniah.
She looked down at the portrait and saw that it was of the sky. The moon was full and it had a lot of stars around it. It was beautiful and captured the night sky perfectly.
That's a really good drawing,
she said.
I know. It's fun not having to draw crazy visions all the time,
said Kiniah.
But isn't it fun to see the future?
Sometimes it is. And sometimes it's not. I mean the things that I see can sometimes be disturbing.
I bet. You know our gifts are considered to be a blessing and a curse.
Yeah I guess. So what brings you to my room? Crisis?
Something like that.
Nervous about school tomorrow huh?
Mekhilah laughed. Yeah. I mean it's high school with the rest of the royal kids. We've never met the kids from the other kingdoms because ours is so small.
Mekhilah and Kiniah were from a small kingdom named Colarian. Their parents King Jesup and Queen Nomiah had been the head of the kingdom for the past thirty years. When Mekhilah and Kiniah became school age they were home schooled at the castle by the finest tutors. But as they got high school aged they were required by law to attend Mystic High with all the other magical royals. It was a tradition that could never be broken.
Just because our kingdom is small doesn't mean anything. There are other small kingdoms out there,
said Kiniah.
I know. I just. I don't know,
said Mekhilah.
Kiniah smiled. You're scared to make new friends aren't you?
Well you've always been better at it than me.
Well if you think that I'm going to leave you behind you were wrong. You're my twin I would never leave you behind.
I know but I'm just nervous. I mean what if we get picked on?
If we get picked on then we just ignore them. I mean we shared a womb together. We have a bond that no one but us will ever understand. As long as we have each other we will be okay.
Mekhilah looked at Kiniah and smiled. She knew that no matter what Kiniah would always be there. Even when they got in the worst fights with each other she never left her stranded. She wished that she could be more like Kiniah almost seemed invincible. Like nothing or no one could keep her down.
Okay well I guess that I can go to bed then,
said Mekhilah.
Kiniah smiled. Or you could sleep in here with me. I mean it's been a while since we had a sleepover.
Because someone said they needed their space.
Yeah well I do but you need me right now so I'll have to suck it up for a night.
You make it sound as if it's going to kill you,
said Mekhilah.
It's not or I would've told you. You know that,
said Kiniah.
Okay well scoot over,
said Mekhilah.
Kiniah laughed and moved her pictures off of the bed so that her sister could lay down. She knew that as soon as Mekhilah's head hit the pillow she would be asleep. Good night Mekhilah.
Good night Kiniah.
Chapter 2
Kiniah sat in the corner of her room with her sketchpad in her hand. She glanced over at Mekhilah to make sure that she was still asleep as she sketched out the images that flooded her head. For the past week she had been having disturbing visions about her and Mekhilah. She was sure that they meant that something terrible was about to happen. One vision was of Mekhilah laying on a floor in a very dark room and the other is of her being tortured by a shadow figure. She knew enough about her visions to take them seriously because they always came true. She just never knew when they would come true.
When she first started to get visions she was about five years old and it scared her. It was a vision of Mekhilah falling out of a tree and breaking her arm and two days later it happened. She immediately told her mom what happened and that's when she explained that everyone born with a royal gene had a type of supernatural power that would manifest itself sooner or later. She also found out that her mom had the same kind if power and suggested that she drew them out so that she wouldn't forget them. Even if that's what she really wanted to do.
As she got older the visions came to her more and more. Sometimes she would try and guess when they would occur so that she could warn people but it was just no use. Some would be in the near future and others would happen later on down the line. And then she would have a strange sense of Deja Vu. Mekhilah's powers weren't as sensitive or as draining as hers and she was envious. Sometimes she wished that her gift would just go away but she also knew that it would never happen. She placed her sketchpad down and walked outside in the castle gardens. She always came out there to clear her head. She heard a noise behind her and when she turned around she saw her mom.
I knew you would be out here,
said her mom.
How? Did you have a vision?
she asked.
No, you've always came out here to clear your mind. And when I noticed that Mekhilah had to be in your room I knew you would be here.
Well you would be correct.
Are you nervous about your first day at Mystic High?
No, but Mekhilah is. It's why she's in my room.
Well your sister was always the sensitive one out of you two.
I know and maybe that's a good thing because I tend to not feel much of anything,
said Kiniah as she took a seat on the bench.
Her mom took a seat beside her. And placed her hand in hers. Kiniah you may not be as sensitive as your sister but you still have feelings. You're just better at hiding them because of the visions that you have.
Yeah those visions,
she said.
Are you having more visions? I mean I know you are but did you have any recently?
asked her mom.
Yes, but I don't really want to talk about them until I figure out a few things,
she said.
You know sometimes it helps to talk about them,
said her mom.
Yeah well I don't really want to talk about this,
she said.
Her mom sighed. Well try not to stay out here so late. You do have school in the morning.
Her mom kissed her on the forehead and walked out of the garden. Kiniah stared into the darkness and thought about her visions. She hoped with everything in her that those visions wouldn't come true. The visions of something happening to her and her sister were becoming more and more vivid. The one thing she did know about the visions was that they all started at Mystic High and ended some place she didn't recognize. She could only hope that they wouldn't start on the first day of school because that would be a bummer. She began to yawn and decided that it was time for her to go to
