Living the life of a painter she's able to paint the many things she sees and that makes life a little easier for her to differentiate between what's real and what's not.
When her best friend sees one of her hallucinations, a bright light that's a tear in reality, things change forever for her. Reaching out to that light both girls are pulled into another world crawling with things that should not exist, a place that threatens Zayla's sanity.
Can the things she's seeing be real or is she simply getting worse? Why does she feel such a strong connection to this new world? Being chased by ghastly creatures, will they make it back to Earth alive?
Sometimes all it takes is being pulled into another world for you to realize that life is boring if reality doesn't have to be questioned.

The Adventures of Zayla Kingdom - Valerie Bloomer
Chapter One
She stared at the canvas before her and frowned at the odd sensation tingling within her fingers with the urge to complete her most recent masterpiece.
The canvas was alighted with vibrant colours around its edges, and within its midst were black horns that she was yet to finish painting, one being shorter than the other. The head side horns were piercing out of what was hidden in shadows, and only the horns were crystal clear. They were only protruding a few inches above the shadow’s head so far, but they stood out like a raven amongst doves. They weren’t smooth, but they had lines and slashes as if someone had taken a knife through them.
Zayla looked over her shoulder as her doorbell rang, she pulled the sheet back over the painting before walking away. There was a haunting instrumental playing throughout her loft which aided with getting her creative juices flowing. Music and painting always touched a special place within her, and combining the two often made her feel as if she wasn’t a part of the world around her, but rather floating on another plane, a plane of peace.
Her platinum blonde hair that many thought was bleached and not natural was piled high on her head, it had stray strands brushing against her face and shoulders. Being 5’4, she had to tip on her toes to see through her peephole before opening her door.
Hey baby.
Hey.
Zayla responded as her bestfriend strutted into her apartment, Mikala, I thought you were coming over later, I’m painting.
Mikala removed her coat as she made a beeline for Zayla’s kitchen, I won’t bother you while you work.
Zayla followed her into the kitchen, admiring the yellow blazer dress she was putting. Finally started a new painting now huh? It’s been weeks.
I like your dress.
Zayla smiled, changing the subject and understanding that’s what she was doing, Mikala nodded and poured herself some grape juice.
Thanks.
She gulped her drink and poured another. I’m a sexy yellow starburst today.
Where Zayla had porcelain cream skin and striking grey eyes, Mikala had smooth brown skin, hazel eyes and a kinky curly hair cut into a pixie cut. Her face was round while Zayla’s was tear shaped, but the two of them combined would receive constant stares when out together. They were day and night, but they fitted so perfectly well.
I prefer the pink starbursts.
Zayla replied with a smirk, silently walking around Mikala to steal the glass of juice she had just poured.
Rolling her eyes, Mikala turned away to get another glass, You have black paint on your face hater.
Unbothered Zayla hunched her shoulders, Comes with the job. How was your last day?
A face splitting smile appeared on Mikala’s face, Bitch! I wish you could have been there. I’m finally done, finally!
She patted her baby hairs and grinned, The fashion industry has no idea of what’s about to hit them.
I’m proud of you. Don’t forget me when you’re flying to Paris for fashion week or New York.
Mikala snorted, her eyes twinkling, Girl, you’ll be sitting right there in the front row with me. You literally look like one of the art pieces you paint, you’d make headlines just for sitting there. If only you’d buy even one fucking Gucci belt.
She walked around Zayla and playfully smacked her on the butt on her way to the living room. So, I have an idea about how we can celebrate me officially being done with school.
Sighing, Zayla palmed her face, whenever Mikala got an idea about how to celebrate, something always goes wrong. The last time they went out to celebrate Zayla selling a painting for five thousand dollars, fire broke out inside a strip club.
Do you know? I think it would be safer for us to just celebrate here, don’t you think?
Mikala pulled a face as she plopped down on the sofa, That fire was one time Zayla, one time. I know that’s what you’re thinking about right now.
The time before that, you got into a fight and spent the night in jail, remember?
I didn’t,
Mikala grumbled, thanks for the reminder though. Anyways, I was thinking about camping.
Camping?
Zayla repeated.
That’s right. Think about it, you, me, a tent and the wilderness for the weekend. Nothing can possibly go wrong while camping, right?
Zayla’s eyes darted from side to side, "There are multiple horror movies that can be used as
