    The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield was first published in 1922. It is said to be one of the best short stories written by the author.

    The story was first published on 4th of February, 1922, in the Saturday Westminster Gazette. On 18th of February, 1922, it was again published in Weekly Westminster Gazette.

    Eventually, it was published in the book titled The Garden Party: and Other Stories. The setting of the story is quite luxurious. Mansfield had spent her childhood in a luxurious house at Tinakori Road, Wellington. The setting of the story is obviously based on her childhood home.

    The Garden Party: and Other Stories was dedicated to the author’s husband, John Middleton Murry, and it is noticeable that it was the last published work by the author. She passed away on 9th of January, 1923.

    This story often finds place in the course of study at many schools and colleges around the world. In several school and colleges it is an inevitable part of the course of English literature that the students have to study.

    Even today, after about one hundred years of its publication, the story has not lost its appeal and it remains very popular among the readers of short stories.

    The titular ‘Garden Party’ is a party that is organized by the Sheridan family. The story is basically about the said garden party and Laura Sheridan. It deals in great details with the triviality of life for this rich family in New Zealand.
