Meranda

The early morning heat greeted Meranda Barrett like a door-to-door salesman, overbearing and unwelcomed, as soon as she opened the front door. Today was going to be a hot one. Being from Buffalo, New York, where the lake effect snow made November thru March brutal, Meranda loved the mild winters they had in North Carolina. However, although she’d lived in North Carolina for almost thirty years, Meranda still did not care for the intensity of the summer’s heat and enjoyed spending her days in the cool, air conditioned house. But, she had to get the paper.

What was that incessant yapping? The Johnson’s dog next door. Meranda didn’t understand why they didn’t just take that tiny dog inside. As she tried to tune out the barking, she saw that one of the five Re-elect NC Senator Tyrone Barrett campaign signs perfectly spaced across the front lawn was tilted. Well, that was unacceptable. Dressed in gray, tailored pants and a black and gray short-sleeved blouse with her signature string of pearls around her neck, Meranda looked down at her black Tory Burch flats. She hated to walk in the grass but the tilted sign threw everything off and certainly was not aligned with Tyrone’s image.
