    INTRODUCTION

Today's world is filled with extreme opinions on everything, from the food we eat, to the houses we live in, to the very vehicles we drive. People are all too ready to jump on a bandwagon of I'm OK and you're just plain wrong.

Yet in this eternal struggle of doubt versus certainty, unbelief versus Belief, none seems more extreme than the battle between so many in the Science and Faith communities.

Yes, I am talking about the concepts of Time, Creation, and Evolution — Science versus the Word.

Being a simple layman, I'm quite sure that some will immediately discount what I'm going to say today. Let me make this perfectly clear, my words are not intended for the scientist, mine are for the Faithful. Thus, when I discuss the various theories, such as the New Earth theory, I'm using the word as a layman does, not in the sense that a scientist uses hypothesis and theory.

Still, for those readers on both sides of the battle, if you have an open mind, perhaps the time I've spent pondering these questions will show you another way to view the beautiful and complex universe that the Lord has blessed us with.

I propose to show you a different way of thinking, not outside of the Word, but right in the middle of it.

NOTE: I have selected the Tanakh (© 1917 The Jewish Publication Society of America) and the New American Bible (© 1987 World Bible Publishers Inc.) to illustrate the Word.

    Chapter 1

    TIME

The concept of time is an interesting proposition. God gave us much to ponder when he gave us the Earth.

In fact, our very lives give us much to consider.

Why does time drag when we're bored, or waiting for something long anticipated? Why does time fly when we're having fun? Yes, a cliché, but seriously, is it time, or our PERCEPTION of time?

Perception. That's a word I'm going to use a lot through my ponderings.

When did we begin to perceive time as a fixed notion? Surely it was before the first clock was made, since the concept normally precedes the invention.

I believe that we have always had some idea of time. The sun rises and sets, the moon comes and goes, waxes and wanes, all according to a schedule that man watches, learns, theorizes.

The earth also measures time, a slow march
