The Werewolf In The Nightclub

The room smelled of cheap perfume and sex. It was an assault on Owen’s senses, but one that he had grown used to. At one time it would have triggered something primal in him. The thrill of the hunt, and oh so many to choose from. But now he held back a cringe. The music was loud, with the thumping bass vibrating the floor. No matter though, no one here really had anything to say to each other anyway. This place relied on body language, not intellectual conversations. That had become more than clear to him over the last several years.

He stood at the bar and scanned the crowd. It looked the same as last weekend and the weekend before that. He knew he shouldn’t complain. This was what he and Dan wanted when they opened this nightclub, an endless parade of beautiful women and a party every weekend. And that is what they got. But now after five years of this, he was bored - not with the business itself - that kept him plenty busy all week long, he was bored with everything else. All the women looked the same. They wore their hair the same. They dressed the same. They even laughed the same… at everything. The hunt was no longer thrilling. It was too easy. One effortless fuck after another. He never thought there would come a time when he missed the old days when you had to work a bit harder to get under a skirt.

At least the drinks were good. He thought to himself as he took another sip of his whiskey, the ice clinking against the glass. He glanced down at his watch. It was just a little after eleven. The place would be picking up soon, filling with men looking for their next lay and women pretending they’re not.
