The Hunger Games features a dystopian world wherein they are divided into districts according to the goods they produce.
Capitol, the government, controls all 12 districts that surround them.
The Hunger Games is a televised event where they randomly select by lottery, two tributes, a boy and a girl, in each district and then let them compete against each other in a battle to death.
Scholastic first published The Hunger Games in hardcover on September 14, 2008 with a cover design by Tim O'Brien.
Publishing rights for the books have been sold in 38 territories and translated in 26 languages.
Collins said that the novel tackles issues like severe poverty, starvation, oppression, and the effects of war among others.
