About this ebook
Introverse is a selection of poems from more than a dozen volumes that I wrote throughout the nineties and naughties. In choosing the poems for this purpose I have abandoned chronology but I have otherwise attempted to represent my various phases and foci, and to create a more or less coherent overview of my poetry.
Regardless of authorial intent, I believe that poetry should speak for itself. Unlike words in a story (which usually serve a narrative cause), the words in a written poem are relatively free agents. The arrangement of these words, with respect to each other and in relation to the page, is all that there is, and, in my opinion, all that there needs to be.
I hope that these poems speak to you.
M D Curzon
I have always written poetry, lyrics and prose. My first publications were a compilation of poems, entitled 'Introverse', and an anthology of short stories under the title 'Imaginary Friends'. 'Imaginary Friends' includes the title story and a dozen others, from the experimental juvenilia of 'Space Stations and Weather Balloons' through to the refined 'One Thing in Light of Another'.'Anticipation' was my first completed novel and is, I hope, an accessible work of literary fiction. My protagonist is a young woman in search of her place in the world. Having fallen in love and been rejected, K's story draws on a number of spiritual and aesthetic dispositions in a journey that is fundamentally one of optimism and self-determination.I have ghostwritten Marie McCreadie's extraordinary memoir 'Voiceless', and have most recently completed my 'High Violence' cycle - www.highviolence.com. Each of the eleven stories in 'High Violence' stands alone as a tightly drawn vignette, but also relays meaning to an overarching narrative as the tension builds inexorably towards a climax that challenges our complicity in the violence of the world. Please feel free to visit my Amazon author page at http://www.amazon.com/author/mdcurzon or contact me through my website at http://www.mdcurzon.com

Her Genius is her Happiness and Her Happiness is her Guide
When you cannot see through the depths below you
And you do not know how you found yourself here,
Hanging on between whispers
With the gravity of all that you have lost, dragging you down,
Then you may remember
The smile she gave you
When you almost missed her,
Then you may remember
That you came all this way just to see her,
Because her genius is her happiness and her happiness is her guide.
To Take Off Like Jette, Bouncing Before Lifting
I’ve been carrying electricity,
Skeletons of Adam,
And evening
Slang that they burn.
You too can hold shares in my sadness,
In all this unfairness,
In Eden
If you like.
Just imagine
Growing old without structure,
Going back to the poem,
Coming back to yourself.
VHS is Coming Back
When I flew you then
I had animals in my eyes
Had honeymoon
On Safari
Had something that you wanted
And
And
Now
I've got you on construction paper
I've got you on video-tape
And
VHS is coming back
The home-made
Holiday world
And Kilimanjaro
And
And
And
All I ever wanted
Was more than this.
Travelling Like Light Over the Fifteen Years Between Us
Imagine shooting here, a video sniper between bronze mirrors... Mmmmm… Strange light surges through you, dimming
