About this ebook
Due to an anonymous tip, Mirah races to a volcano to be the first one to claim a new discovery. She thinks she’s alone until Farron mysteriously appears. Part of her distrusts him and his motives while another part of her gravitates toward his obvious virility. She craves him even though she feels he’s hiding something from her. She tries to keep her claim on the site, not to mention her sanity, but he won’t stay at arm’s length. What she doesn’t know is that it doesn’t do any good to fight the destined fire that wants to engulf them both.

Prologue
Mirah carefully packed her equipment to make ready for the trip. She scarcely remembered the last time she had been in Hawaii, but now her work afforded the opportunity to return. She loved her job. She loved trekking all over the world across foreign lands to study volcanoes and their activities. She was especially excited about this trip. Seismic activity had increased over the last several months and she intended to find out whether or not it correlated with the volcanoes. With her gear now ready, she turned to the task of packing her personal bags.
Damn bags,
she grumbled while she struggled to close the suitcase. She sat hard upon the top of it and bounced on the bed until she heard the tell-tale click of success. Damn straight, she grinned. She grabbed some ponytail holders and headed to the bathroom. She brushed her long fiery mane then French braided it into submission. Some strands stubbornly feathered her face but that couldn't be helped.
Grabbing her gear and bags, she piled them next to the door and checked her watch. Hmmm…thirty minutes yet before my ride gets here from the airport. Enough to call Mom. She flipped open her cell phone and dialed.
Hi, honey,
her mom answered quickly.
Hi, Mom. Well, I'm all packed up and ready for the trip. Wish me luck.
Sweetheart, are you sure that you want to go on this assignment?
Her voice sounded strained.
Mom, we already went through this. This volcano has been active for many years and has visitors all the time. I've been to lots of other sites before. You worry too much.
"But, little sprite, Kilauea is very active. That's the key word…active…and you weren't alone at those sites. You always had an experienced partner to mentor you."
Mom, I'm not going to really be alone. I'll be in charge of a team. I'm just arriving before they do, but we're gonna meet at the hotel. And I'm not your little sprite anymore. I'm all grown up. I have to have a chance sometime to do this on my own; now is my chance. I've worked so hard to get this opportunity to be
large and in charge. Actually, I've been training longer than most, so I'm overdue for a project like this. You always encouraged me before. What's the problem now? What's the reason why you don't want me to go back to the Big Island? We haven't been there since moving—I can hardly remember anything about it.
There's no particular reason. I, I just don't feel comfortable about this assignment, that's all.
Mirah crinkled her brow, considering her mother's words. On the one hand, she felt she should listen to her, but on the other, she refused to give up this opportunity. Besides, she felt the inexplicable pull to go back to that area anyway. She had felt it for years now. It was the perfect time.
Well, I have to go. It's my job and I just can't pick any assignment I want. I have to do what the boss says. Besides, my boss, Jack, thinks I'm perfectly capable.
I know, sweetheart, but I would have thought that by now you would've changed careers…maybe would have done something a little less dangerous and perhaps settled down,
she hinted.
Mom, I don't want any career changes. I love what I do. As for guys, well there just haven't been any lately worth spending time on. So many of them are players, and I don't have time for that kind of drama. But don't worry, one day you'll have grandkids.
She laughed. It was true. Mirah wouldn't completely
