About this ebook

Betrayed.

By the one person I trusted.
By the man who raised me as his own.
Who trained me to be the ruthless killer I am today.
Well, it’s time for payback.
I may not remember my past, but I’m going to show Ryuu, and all those responsible, what happens when you double-cross Emery Kane.

Blood will be spilled. Bones will be broken. Their bodies will fall.

My father created a monster. Perhaps, he should have learned to control me.

Michelle Congdon

Michelle Congdon resides in Sydney, Australia. She has a Dalmatian named Jett, who to this day continues to hold an 8 year grudge against her after she had to leave him with her parents when she moved to the big city- this only proves animals are much like their owners. Michelle enjoys reading books of all sorts of genres, watching way too many movies and TV shows (and Disney cartoons), singing out aloud to her favorite hits and going on adventures involving food and travel. Michelle is loud, talks a lot and shares an ever-growing list of fictional husbands with a friend. From when she was a small girl, she has always had an overactive imagination and has tried to put it to good use by sharing her stories with anyone willing to listen.

    Frame1

It’s said that snakes don’t strike unless provoked or they’re on a hunt. Right now, I’m both. I’m on a revenge mission to hunt down every single person who has lied and kept the truth of my past from me, thus provoking me. Is it extreme? Perhaps. But when the man who calls me his daughter sets me up and then proceeds to send hit men to kill me, my act seems plausible. One by one they will die, slowly and painfully. I want to be able to smell their fear and see the terror in their faces as I pull the trigger and put a bullet between their eyes.

    Frame2

I sit quietly in the dark room, patiently waiting for my prey to arrive. A large, black silhouette of a spider on the wall has been my only friend for the past two hours. The wait doesn’t faze me. I’ll wait however long it takes for the person I’m hunting to come home.

Headlights turning into the driveway shine through the curtains and light up the room momentarily, before going dark again. I watch the spider scramble behind a painting. Unlike my little arachnid friend, I’m not hiding. No, for me, the hunt has only just begun.

I pick up the gun resting next to me on the arm of the vintage-style sofa and slowly rise to my feet. I make my way toward the door and wait against the wall for the perfect opportunity to strike.

I hear the keys jiggle in the lock before the doorknob opens and a figure steps inside. As soon as the light flicks on, I make my move.

    Hello, Brian.

    Frame3

Brian freezes the moment I press the muzzle of my gun on the back of his head. His hands fly up in surrender causing the keys he’s holding to fall to the ground with a heavy clank. Em… Emery, he says shakily. Please, please don’t kill me.

"I’ve always liked you, Brian. But if you force me to, I will kill you."

He nods feverishly. What, what can I help you with?

My memory, I answer without a beat.

    Your memory?

Yes. I nudge him with the gun and point to his desk with my free hand. Go sit down.

He immediately walks toward his desk, almost tripping over his own feet as he goes. Once he’s seated, only then do I take a seat on the sofa I was on earlier. Don’t do anything stupid, Brian. I can still shoot you dead from here.

He nods and adjusts his falling glasses. So, what is it about your memory you want help with? I can see he’s trying to act calm, but the poor guy is shaking so much he can barely sit still.

How about answering where the first ten fucking years of my life have gone and why I can’t remember any of it! He jolts at the rising sound of my voice. Have you implanted anything inside my head, Brian? Don’t lie to me! I lift the gun and aim it at him.

Brian gasps loudly and his hands shoot up in the air again. Please, Emery! Please don’t!

    Answer the question!

No! he shouts. No, we didn’t have to! Your mind did it all on its own!

His comment spikes my interest. Go on. Explain.

"After a psychological trauma, the brain is
