About this ebook
It was Detective Ocon. I picked up and placed the phone close to my ears. "Hel……" "Victoria, where are you?" He sounded urgent.
He did not even let me finish my greeting. "I am outside." "Is Max with you?" "Yes, she is right here." "Good. Come with her to the police station right now."
New lead, a new surprise. Has Victoria been betrayed by Annette? Or is it all just a misunderstanding? Could Victoria have been wrong all along?
Just as Victoria thought of herself as someone who was on the path of recovery, she faces a relapse.
A new threat, but to whom? Another letter, but where? Victoria pays another visit to her ancestral home. This time, she is accompanied by even more haunting memories. This time, both Andrew and Jacques haunt her.
Is Victoria's sense of security upon moving valid? Or will it turn out to be another facade? Victoria tries to trust people by navigating through a maze of her own trust issues.
New problems; someone else's doing or her own fault? A diary; could it be life-changing or just another piece of useless information?
Things begin to tangle and untangle themselves on their own. Will it give Victoria closure or send her deeper into her own shadows?
"Look, Anthony. Remember when you told me about that woman who visited Dad? How angry she looked?
Well, Dad has some unresolved stuff with her, and she is coming after me for that. She is dangerous, very dangerous. She has targeted many people around me. She may have even killed."

Prologue
"W
hy can’t I hear anything anymore?" I thought to myself as I pressed several keys on the computer. I then took off the headset and tried to see if I could hear anything with the computer speakers. Nothing. The computer kept showing an error sign. I began to press several keys at once out of frustration. I slammed the headset on the table.
Damn it! She found the wires. Or rather, the police found the wires. I did not play this right. The plan was to scare her so much that she never turned to the police. It was working. It was working!
What even changed in her mind? Why would she contact the police? I thought she was like her father: spineless, but she turned out to be more like her mother. Damn her!
Paying another visit to the hospital would be too risky. The police already knew the bus stop I got on. It is only a matter of time before they figure out the rest. I have to act fast and rashly.
Going to the hospital was an irrational decision. Visiting her apartment was easy due to the lack of security cameras and the presence of a fire escape. However, a hospital is risky. They do not just have security cameras; there are too many people and witnesses.
Not just that, but anyone can see anything at any time. Why did I not think this through? Due to my own blunders, I have now lost access to keeping track of her through the listening devices. She was supposed to be discharged today. How about I pay her apartment a visit?
I climbed up the fire escape, careful not to make any noise. I did not wear anything that could fall off today. Even my emerald birthstone ring was not on my finger. I had learned my lesson from when my heart pendant fell. I still had not retrieved it.
I took such a risk by kidnapping her just for the pendant, and I did not even retrieve it. I was now stuck in this mess precisely because of it. That pendant, everything associated with that family is cursed. All it does is bring pain and downfall to people. Anyone who loves them pays for it.
Today, I did not wear any heels. Today, my purpose was not to scare her but to go unnoticed. I needed to get an outlook of the reinforcements and security that the police may have provided for her and then make a plan accordingly. As I reached her apartment, every single light in it was turned off. It was pitch dark. That is odd. Should she not be home? She got discharged today. I am sure the doctors told her not to exert herself by going somewhere for a couple of days.
Due to security issues, she should have also been instructed to remain here. Then why? She is too scared of the dark to sleep like this. I carefully unlocked her window and stepped into the room. That is when I realized, in shock, that they had moved her. Her apartment was completely empty, devoid of any sign of human life.
All of her bedroom furniture was gone. It just looked like a white, empty square. Where did she go? I could feel panic rising in my chest. The only person I could blame for all of this was me. It was my fault. It was already dumb of me to kidnap her, knowing the police would get involved. But then, they went as far as to move her.
What am I supposed to do now? I do not even know where she is and have no way of finding it out either. Lost in my thoughts, a sudden noise startled me. I was still standing in her bedroom, but I could hear footsteps coming from the living room. With the plush carpet removed and the entire apartment empty, even the tiniest sound was echoing like lightning during thunder. Shit! I failed to recognize the possibility that the police must have stationed someone here in case I came back.
They anticipated that I would come to her as soon as she was out of the hospital. Thank God I did not wear my heels today. As silently as I could, I made my way toward the window. Just as I had stepped onto the balcony, the bedroom door opened. I made a run for it. I could hear rapid footsteps in the distance and someone shouting at me to stop.
My heart felt like it would stop any second. It was beating so fast and rapidly that I thought it would burst. Both our footsteps thudded on the steel fire escape. I ran as fast as I could, jumping two, sometimes three steps at a time. Whoever it
