    Preface

    .......

Hanuman was born to Anjana and Kesari and in no time won

acclaim for his heroic deeds. He finds a special mention in Indian

mythology for his uncanny ability to acquire any form. He is

also known as Sankatmochan, meaning ‘one who saves people

from trouble’. Children simply adore this great hero from the

    epic Ramayana.

Here is a compilation of stories for children, narrated by

the author, to depict Hanuman’s bravery and intelligence.

    A Naughty Child

    ..............

D      own south, beyond the Vindhyas lay a region dotted with   otte

huge mountain ranges covered by dense forests. This region,

known as Kishkinda Khetra, was inhabited by wild animals of all

kinds, besides being home to mischievous monkeys.

Bali was their king who ruled from his capital Kishkinda, with

the able assistance of his brother Sugriva. On the mountain range

known as Udayagiri, lived a monkey couple, named Anjana and

Kesari. One day Anjana gave birth to a male baby in a cave at

Udayagiri with the blessings of the Wind-god, Vayu.

Kesari was delighted to see his baby. The baby monkey began

to grow under his father’s guidance, care and love. Kesari taught

him many monkey tricks like jumping around, climbing trees,

trapezing on hanging branches, somersaulting and indulging in

    all kinds of activities.

One day, Mother Anjana went out into the forest to collect

edible fruits for her little one
